Do the TCC differ from the Buick, Chevy, And Olds in the 200-4r???

I think I may need one, after driving my T for about 25-35 minutes, it doesnt downshift to 1st and wants to stall out, when coming to a stop. I'm asking this becuase I think the trans is from an Olds or an SS. Will I need the tranny code if I order a TCC?

Thanks. Let me know.

to answer the question, probably nothing. i believe the only differences are the bolt patterns (brf and bqr are different internals. ihope i got the codes right) but there should be no dfference.

HOWEVER it doesn't sound like a tcc solenoid problem to me. when mine went out, actually it was more like sticking. it would stick in the locked position. in 1st gear there is no fluid flow to the tcc so i realy doubt thats the problem, it also doesn't affect how the car shifts. if i had to take a guess knowing what you have said i'd guess the TV cable is out of adjustment. does it shift at the right times and everything most of the time?

Unfortunetly, I don't know the code on the trans. And it shifts a tad high, but nothing crazy. Its a very firm shift too. I think an adjustment on the TV cable is on order to see if it remedies the problem. But it only does it when it warmed up and been driven for a bit. If that doesnt work, what do you think I should check next?

the code isnt really important, all gn's have either brf (i'm almost sure thats right) in the 86/7 and bqr in 84/5, its just different valve bodies i believe. If i remember right in 87 the SS montes got the same tranny as gn's did. i know the aerocoupe did and i'm almost certan the normal ss did also. but it shouldn't matter. i think even the 700-4r's have the same lock up converter, but i'm not sure at all on that.

if its shifting high thats going to hold it in gear longer when you are downshifting. I'd manually downshift it next time to see if it will do what you want it to do.

hopefully someone with more tranny experience will chime in for you.

We do this to EVERY 2004r

Retrofit a 700r4 solenoid in it. They are electromagnet and work better than the plunger style. Let me ask you this? When was the last time you heard of a 700 solenoid sticking?
Not recently and pressure holding capability is 5 times that of a 2004r. Ask Russ Merritt. He was proven this when he was out here. Maybe he will chime in and discuss what he witnessed.
Anyway, put a 700r4 solenoid in it.
We have them...ck here

Bruce's little solenoid/pressure switch test bench proves the 700R4 to be a superior part. When pressure goes up, the 200 solenoid can't handle it and will not activate. The 700 doesn't miss a beat no matter what the pressure, works everytime. Especially important when tryin to lock up the trans on a WOT pass....

Your problem Purple87SS sounds to me like the solenoid also. The trans won't shift to first until your almost stopped anyway and if the solenoid is stickin you may think it doesn't want to down shift to 1st when really it's just wishin it was unlocked..... Quick test, go unplug the trans and see if it goes away. DO NOT leave it like that, just test.....

Retrofit a 700r4 solenoid in it.
Is this a direct fit or do you need to modify it to work?

Direct fit. Comes with the spacer washers you'll need between the case and the mounting tabs on the solenoid cause of the added length. 2 wires and your done.
