Hey guys i just got my te44 in the other day from full throttle speed and was eyeballing it for when i get ready to install it. (gotta get one small thing fixed before i install) Got a couple questions.

#1 The turbo didnt come with a wastegate (dont know if they normally do or what) should i use the stocker or where could i get one for this turbo?

#2 The oil feed line on the top of the turbo, i dont understand how my stock line will work with this turbo. What do most people do here?

#3 On the bell on the stock turbo, there is some kind of vaccum line running to it then running to the passanger side valve cover. This wont work with the new turbo so what should i do with it?

Thanks in advace guys...

#1. Need to buy a waste gate for the TE 44. Full throttle should have them.
#2. Transfer the brass fitting from the stock turbo to the Te 44. Some recomend a new oil feed line. I bent one up out of the same dia. brake line before I got the turbo saver from a member on the board.
#3. It's a breather tube, most remove it and buy a open breather, I just removed the tube and left the stock breather in the valve cover.

Ok thanks im ordering a wastegate now, but as for the oil feed line. It screws into the top of the stock turbo right? But on the TE44 it looks like it needs exactly the same fitting as the drain line on the stock turbo.

The inlet on top has a 90 degree fitting on it, take the one off your old turbo, throw some teflon tape on it and transfer to the 44. It would be a good idea to use studs for the drain tube, make absolutely sure the drain pipe is clean, some guys use a little rtv on both sides of drain gasket too. If you haven't already, start soaking the downpipe bolts & the 3 mounting bolts with WD40 or PB Blaster on your stock turbo.

hello turbo buick

hey guys im new to turbo buick i own a 87 Gn with t tops currently under construction when i get it done i will post pics and stuff

Hey guys i got the turbo on today and got EVERYTHING hooked up except one thing. Damn oil line on the top of the turbo, it will not screw into the 90 degree receiving end. Been trying for over a hour and think the threads on it may be screwed. Was wondering what you guys did, i know some people replaced the oil feed line. Where did you get it? Thanks

That is the biggest PITA for me replacing a turbo. If the threads are screwed-up it is most likely the brass 90* fitting and not the feed line. I know I have had to replace a 90* fitting before - I bought a couple at NAPA. Just make sure the feed line is perfectly lined-up with the brass fitting - if it doesn't go right away - step away, have a soda, come back and try it again.

I wish somebody had a list of what size ends i would need if i wanted to go with a braided line. That would be great.

1/4" inverted flare male , both sides , if you used a wrench on the 90 in the middle of the fitting odds are you crushed it, the fittings is 90* - 1/8" npt male x 1/4" invert flare female

Hey guys i replaced the copper end and it fit like a charm. Took the car out for a spin and really cant tell much of a difference from the stock turbo  ... O well looks ALOT cleaner in the bay.

Hey guys just wondering if there was something i could have done wrong when putting on the wastegate, its adjustable. I just unscrewed it until it was just a tad hard to fit onto the flapper. Just wondering because the car acually feels a tad slower than with the stock turbo.

if any one told you just dropping a 44 on would make you faster they lied
it will feel slower to go (lag) if you still have a stock converter , and wont have much more hp over stock are still running the same stock level boost ,
get a looser converter sized for the te44 , like a 2800 and get it up to 25lb boost safely (race fuel or alky inj) and youll feel the te44 gains big over the stocker

is the 44 a .63 exhaust housing or what most 44's are .82 ? the .82 housing will be more laggy and will need a converter change if you desire quick spooup, if plans are to stay with stock converter the .63 is usually used and what most TA49s were sold with but there are some te44s with .63 .
did you check the fit of the wastegate puck over the hole in the turbos exhaust housing ?, if the turbo was used it may have been ported for a larger puck like a terry houston down pipe (has a 1-3/8 puck) , if you have stock down pipe elbow (1-1/8" puck ) then theres a possibility your puck isn't covering the hole which will lead to slow spool , if the turbo was on an external pipe then the hole could have been ported to 1 1/4 or larger ( never mind i just reread you got your turbo from full throttle so i would be very surprised if there is an issue with the puck hole , slim to no chance of a problem)

on the adjustable arm try it with just a little tension and see where the boost goes , if its too low then shorten it , normal is to shorten so there an 1/8" to pull it and get it on the wastegate arm but with just pump gas its better to start loose incase you have a HD wastgate designed for higher boost levels than 93 only fuel can safely support

What boost were you running with the stock turbo and what boost with the -44? If you don't have a boost guage, now is the time. I noticed a difference between the stock and the -44 from 18# on up that was backed-up on the track. My -44 was worth at least a 1/2 second over the stock turbo.

Really doubt you'll feel any gains until you get past 19-20 psi. You'll either need a machined Garrent exhaust housing for the 44 or replace the stock D5 with a higher stall to get spool up back to where it was.
