te 44

good friend (super6) ran 11.40 @ 123 mph first pass at the track with this turbo.i think he ran 23#s of boost that run and had a 2.xx 60 ft time.save your money for now and just tune what you have.you will need that money later.i know this first hand:mad: btw i run a te 60 not enough difference between the two for a change imo.

6776 or any other turbo is not laggy with the right converter and engine combo. The 67 with a .63 exhaust housing would make a killer street turbo. The 60 will support about 600hp and the 67 probably 800+. I would go with a 67 or just keep the 44 add more upgrades and tune the heck out of it.

That would be "old" technology. Its come a long way, with help from convertors as well. I think a 6776 would be a good choice

I have been away from the Buick boards lately and never heard of the 6776.It may be a great Turbo but I find it hard to believe that it will give the same throttle response and low end power of a Te-44.If I did upgrade to a 3200 converter maybe i would find out.I think Im going to add the Converter first. Then see how mt Te-44 runs.Im just gonna switch to a .63 Precision housing.Remember this car might only see the drag strip once every 5 years at most.Don't want a Turbo that runs hard only after 60mph like the TE-45A.

It all depends on your goals. Many different combo choices out there. You said you wanted a little more at 18 lbs. Going from a 44 to a 60 wont do it, but the 6776 will. That was the reason for the suggestion. Do a search, the turbos of choice are the 6776 or the 60's and 44's on the street. You already have the 44 and talking about upgrading. The next "logical" choice would be the 6776. Many people I've talked to are happy with the 6776 on the street. A lot of power without a big psi number. Hope this helps your decision. I was just offering a little advise, not trying to sell you something

Yeah running the same boost with more power would be great.I am always cautious when going to a bigger Turbo because I use to have a 60-1 and it ran ok with 3:73 Gears and a 26 Inch tall tire. But with a 28 Inch tall tire it was laggy as hell.I couldn't launch it for anything. The 60-1 Turbo didn't hit anywhere as hard like the Te-44 did. What a difference in Turbo's.I don't know how to compare a 60-1 Turbo to a 6776:confused:

two things to look at for that is: 1-tune, and 2-convertor

Im pretty much set on going with the VIG 3200 9.5 Inch Single Disc Converter.Don't know if the 6776 is a great street Turbo like some are saying.

I went from a 44 to a 60 and kept my restalled d5 (2800) and spoolup was about the same. It spools very fast on the street like as soon as I touch the gas it start and before i'm at the other side of the intersection it is between 10-15 psi. I am very watchful of my tune though and it likes to be as lean as reasonably possible for the spoolup. I am running the turbotweak chip and that made a huge difference over the Jay Carter chip for the spoolup. Just as the other say the 60 comes on alot harder after 20 psi than the 44 did and overall I am happier with the 60 than the 44. I don't plan on going any bigger because traction at 18 psi with both turbo's is an issue on the street unless your running drag radials. According to your goals I would say just keep your 44 unless you want more top end,say if you are running alchy and will see over 20psi on the street. I only upgraded mine because a local wanted to trade down to the 44 for some reason.

i say screw them both and get a pt 66 ball bearing turbo with a 3400 stall converter! great street turbo! my friend has it on his and it spools great, with right converter! not as powerfull as my 274 76gts but hes still managed to run 10.90 on pump gas, and a 10.30s on c16!! it will blow the doors off of those two turbos while still having excellent street manners! i think this turbo may just be the best street/strip turbo out there! talk to jack hell tell you the same thing!!

Is that a 6776?? Im getting alot of conflicting opinions on what is the best street Turbo's?? All I know is that the TA49,TE-44 and TE-60 were the great street Turbo's.I have been away from the Buick scene for awhile because Im selling my unstreetable 69 Camaro and want to keep my Buick, and maybe go a bit faster without dreaded lag.Nothing beats a Buick Turbo.Best of both worlds, gas mileage and power.I do have a 5.0 Mustang that I may plan on going the Turbo route with that.

Yeah but a 3400 converter for a street car has its limits.3200 seems to be the highest stall for a regular daily driver. Is that PT 66 the same as the 6776??? I have been away from the Buick boards for awhile and Im trying to relearn about the different Turbo's out there.I was planning on a 9.5 3200 VIG.

Snappiness is what I am looking for.I wouldn't rule out a 3400 stall converter but thats got to affect the driveability of the car.

no not the same, the 6776 is from garrett the 66 is made by turbonetics. i like the turbonetic because its made better. and its a heavier and more durable piece of work. not my opinion just fact!!

You haven't even touched the potential of your 44 if you are only running 18 psi. Get your self an alky kit and TurboTweak chip and turn up the boost. Find yourself a .63 garrett housing and put it on the 44 and it will spool like mad with a 3200 converter. Tune the car at 22psi and will be a very fast, quick spooling street car. If you love the 44 so much call Jack Cotton and he'll sell you a ball bearing 44 and spool up issue will be solved. You have many options. I love my TE60. I have a .63 garrett housing on it and 3200 viglante converter and spools very quickly. It makes excellent power also. The 44 will do the same with the right combo.

not a big diferrence, but the diferrence in power is night and day!!! probably 70- 100 hp more!

My last run on the street with the 44 with a Garret housing I believe the 02 Volts were 830 or 850,0 Knock which meant I was running very rich.At 18lbs of boost. The problem is that into 2nd gear the car went way sideways on me and I had to get off the throttle.I may have had to much air in the tire's.Also I did no burn out whats so ever.

i agree with gnsnake if you plan on staying with that turbo you havent even scratched the surface of its potential. i would definetly install razors alky kit, erics chip, and good front mount, esp is ok with youre power level, tune for max boost with ZERO DETONATION!
