Hello,

does anyone know if the TH-200 lockup and TH-200 4R have same internals excluding valve assy and overdrive?

My big Q is that is a standard TH-200 as strong as a 4R? And can the 3-spd. auto be updated with 4R parts?

My question may sound weird but there's a reason for it.

Sincerely,

Parts shared by 200C and 200-4r

According to the transmission parts book I have, the stock
bands and major components rearward of the output shaft's
snapring share the same part numbers. The small parts on the output would logically be the same, but I didn't try to check all of them.:)

Thanks a lot for the info.

Is there a good and reliable source where I could buy ALL the parts to update the TH-200C to withstand 400 rwhp and 550 ft-lbs?
A twinturbo SFI SB Chevy engine is in question.

Since I like the light rot. mass of the tranny then I'd like to use it.

Hey HOTTOGO, that DRW Trans. sounded good, are you a customer to that place or one member of the staff?

Netsitewize that place feels to be a potential place to buy trans parts. Also knowledge would be appreciated, since I cannot send my tranny there. I am from Finland, Helsinki and the distance is some 10K miles from here. And therefore I wiil rebuild the trans myself.

you're asking for a trans to handle 400 rwhp and 550 rwft/lbs??

a twin turbo fuel injected sbc, no matter how mild, should produce quite a bit more than that. I'm just saying that when doing a trans, you shouldn't be modest about your hp & tq numbers. You can always overbuild on the trans, you won't hurt anything.

any twin turbo car is cool, but a tt fuel injected sbc is just plain sick. What kind of SFI engine are you planning on using?? A place near me did a turbo LT1 in an impala that ran pretty good.

Well,
I am trying to be realistic with this. Since I thought at first that the 200C won't hold I was thinking of dumping it. Then I was recommended by a GN enthusiast to visit this place and I'm very glad that I came here.

My first try-out will be around 12-15 psi of boost and I am not running anything very radical inside the block. I do not want to grenade the trans and since my impression of the 200 was that it doesn't hold together I decided not to have too much oomph.

I am building this to a new 5.0L GM block, since the bore/stroke ratio is very good in my opinion. It's near identical to Nissan's ZX300 TT and Toy Supra MKIV inline6 TT. Heads are cast iron with not too big a valves and a good port job, comp is 7,9:1, two custom-made Garretts/Holsets, selfmade headers and plumbing, selfmade tubetype ram injection manifold, fully laptop-programmable ECU with widerange lambdas, intercoolers, maybe waterspray. There's 2 twinturbo quartermilers here in Finland and those dudes are radical, other one has a 65 Chevelle Malibu 468 Rat with similar-in-principle setup and perf of 8.2s/162mph. Other has a 65 Plymouth Valiant with Mopar SB 368 with similar-in-principle setup and perf of 8.3s/161mph, but they are beyond a streetcar. And I want to drive anywhere I like when I have it under me and running.

Upgrades are to follow of course. The only problem for me is that I don't know enough of the 200 and many people say that it's just a boat anchor. I want to know more about it.

And I am not building a quartemiler but a street car with an eccentric body on top of a Chevy Malibu frame, the engine is mid-mounted. I'd like to pick on the Ferrari's on the highways, to drive on their side on the freeway at speeds exceeding WELL over 100 mph, lift my hand inside the cabin to say hello and STEP ON IT! :D :D

while you aren't shooting for 8's, it seems quite possible that you could be headed for low 11's, even 10's with your setup.

I too once though that a 2004r trans was a boat anchor, until I bought a grand national, and learned what can be done with them.

a gn in the 10s will most likely have well over $2k into the trans and convertor, probably more. If you're willing, you will have no trouble getting/building a 200 overdrive trans that will handle whatever power you want. If you want to keep up with ferrari's, you're going to need that 4th gear, or you'll run out of steam. A 200 can be built to be near bulletproof, you just have to want it bad enough :D

mr pa we build 200s for lite cars 25 to 2800 lbs that can hold 675 hp plus reliably .a good thing to do is use the front weel drive 3254l planets in it to correct the helix angle thrusting problems in this unit .lcall us for more info as youll find out you cant Fool the guesser .www.ckperformance.com sold by dist in ny ,nj, pa chicago ,alabama, texas, detroit ,arizona etc
