had the th-350c all rebuilt 2nd time in 2 years, I had the B&M shift kit installed which I did myself for the last year and it shifted awesome. Took the tranny out cuz of a leaky torq converter seal, tranny place told me bands are burnt up. so they re-built, and took out the shift kit and installed their own ( think it was a transgo) Tranny works very nice, 2nd to 3rd is nice and firm, but 1st to second isnt as firm, and when I shift manually it is a little delayed vs's the 2nd to 3rd manual shift which is right there. Is there anything I can do myself to improve the 1st to 2nd shift? I really dont feel like bringing the car back to the shop to let it sit there and god knows what they'll do to it. Any info from you "smart" guys :D would be great. Thanks!

Are you sure they told you the bands are burnt up>??? That has to be one of the funniest things I have read in a LONG time. -Mat-

well I'm glad I could amuse you, I'm pretty sure thats what they said, somthing was burned up a little and there were a descent amount of shavings in the pan ( I got the old pan back)

But still is there somthing I can do to improve the 1-2 shift?? 2-3 is fine..anyone???

Aah we all need a laugh sometimes......
Make sure they are taking the wave plate out of intermediate and sticking a steel in its place. HD sprag is nice as well.
Be sure to get those bands replaced too! LoL -Mat-

I would NOT recommend leaving the wave plate out of the intermediate on a TH350.
Beside that, the trans is already in the car, taking the trans out to leave out a wave plate will do little for shift quality and alot to help the sprag fail.

You'll have to drop the valve body and drill the 2nd feed hole in the seperator plate. Maybe leave out the checkball depending on how hard you want it to shift to 2nd. I would drill the feed, leave the checkball in place....

You don't want the 1-2 too hard or it will kill the intermediate sprag race.

I agree with Jakeshoe. Every single TH350 that I have rebuilt that had the intermediate sprag race broken has had the cushion plate removed. Even a stock 76 Malibu with a 305 came to me with a broken outer sprag. They had it rebuilt little under a year when that happened and the cushion plate was replaced with a steel.

thanks for the suggestions, yes the tranny is in the car and I dont feel like taking it out just for this, it's not that bad. What about a different governer, that vacuum one, changing that will change what rpm the tranny shifts and how hard right??

govoernor is under the round cover on the drivers rear, it is mostly only for WOT shift points.
Modulator is on the pass side rear, facing rear. It can slightly change the part throttle rpm but isn't going to change the firmness much.

Best bet is the valve body mod...
