OK Guys I changed the intermediate sprag and the car still does not move in second. The sprag is on correctly (turns clockwise). When I put the tranny in second it loads the motor. A couple times while in second it wanted to move, it would inch forward but now it won't even do that. The car will move in reverse and first. No second and third. It has a hipsters transbrake if that helps. Please help, Thanks!

when people have these kind of problems i will sell them one of ours.this is not what you want to hear but without understanding how theirs worksd i couldnt begin to fix it.the ones ive seen from them seem very crude to be honest with you.this may be because my lack of understaNDING BUT it just is weird.the check basll and spring etc.

How hard is it to install one of yours? I'm wondering if I'm missing parts (parts deleted from installing hipsters brake) to install yours. Also what's the price?

our bracket brake installs very easy, but our pro tree brake is much more involved if you want to reap the benefits of its design.in your case our pro 4 0 brake wont be necessary.the bracket brake is 389.00 money well spent as it is not plagued with the thing you and other fight with others.try sending yours in to hepster.

If they fix it how long will it last before this happens again?

I had nothing but problems with the Hipster. My trans guy got it whipped now, but i will never buy another again.

I use Hipster's brakes

And I have had great success with them. In my Super Gas car years ago, I got 1480 runs out of that trans and it looked perfect when pulled down for inspection. Did you ck the lugs in the case? Does the direct clutch housing have any scraping marks on the back side? Did it do this from day 1 or all of a sudden occur? Were cases swapped as there is a ck ball in the int circuit in the case.

Bruce,
It has less than 20 total passes on it. Worked fine until the last pass after alot of wheelhop. At least I think it did. On the last pass I tore every tooth off the ring and pinion. I then rebuilt the rear and found the tranny locked when shifted to second.
It has a fresh intermediate sprag and drum. I didn't see any broken parts or anything abnormal, from what I can tell anyway. This is one of the few tranny's I've taken apart, so I'm still learning.

Louie, sounds like what I going through. I really considering dumping the Hipster if it's gonna give me problems like this. BTW I was planning to make it to the TSM event in Orlando, but I would think I need a transmission to be somewhat competitve.
Louie, I have a question I been forgetting to ask: What the torque numbers correct in the GMHT article. If I recall it was 547 ft. lbs?

Ck the

Low sprag very carefully. It may have rolled it. With wheel hop if very bad can hurt several things, however I am more inclined to believe that shearing the ring and pinion can roll sprags. Look at a Chrysler Torqueflight. Everytime you wipe a rear end, it takes the sprag out. Very common. Ck it close. If so, this is a perfect example of how a product can be bashed and it had NOTHING to do with it. From your explanation of what took place, I would bet the Brake and /or valve body are NOT the problem. Like always, I could be wrong, but in this case not likely.

put the vehicle up in the air and turn the driveshaft clockwise .clockwise while facing the front of the car.if the rear sprag is frozen the shaft will barely turn even with a 2 foot prybar between the u joints.if the sprag is overrunning youll hear a squeak from the unit.to obtain second gear you only need the sun gear tube held and the internal gear to drive independent of the front gearset the only thing that can cause a lock is if the sprag doesnt ovverrun or the band is stuck locking the front carrier to the center support, the direct clutch is applying trying to drive the sun gear which is held by the intermediate clutches and sprag,or the sprag is upside down causing the trans to shift from first to third and lock.are you sure the rear band is coming off ?some brakes use a special spring to knock off.are you sure the rear servo is assembled as per theirinstructions?some leave out seal rings.did youi leave out the intermediate servo and band?your supposed to.hipster should haver the answer, after all its their brake.what did they say?

I spoke to Charlie and he told me to put a gauge on the driver's side to check operating pressure. I haven't had time to do that yet. I've been working.

I'll go jack the rear and try to turn the driveshaft. What gear should it be in? Does it matter?

The driveshaft turns either way in second gear with the car jacked up. I had to use a 6" socket extension to turn it but it was fairly easy. That rules out the rear sprag, I guess.
As far as everthing assembled correctly, I would assume it was because of how many passes I had on it and 50-100 miles. It worked flawlessly until the wheelhop launch.

Could it have gone this far without the rear servo assembled correctly? No intermediate servo and band is in it.

I think I'm gonna pull it out tomorrow and bring it to my local tranny expert. I don't know enough about transmissions to troubleshoot this problem. I really would like to fix it myself, though.
