Everybody is telling me I need to have the pump modified for lower preasure to run a TH400 in my TR. Can anybody elaborate on this? Thanks

Its very simple ,if you dont run a modified pump you have a 95% chance of hurting the main crankshaft bearings in the block.A stack plate cooler in use brings the 95% factor to 99.9%.

what has to be done? who does it?

I don't know for sure, and I hope others will chip in with their thoughts, but isn't restricting the oil feed to the converter with a drilled set screw (0.172") one of the ways to reduce forward thrust on the crank?

tap the converter charge angle passage in pump cover w/5/16 coarse tap(no drilling before tapping required)and install a brass allen head set screw.Drill set screw out .110" to .125".
