Mostly good comments, except for this guy...

I, for one, do not respect the GN. It is no more impressive than an $800 S-10 or Vega with a $3000 Summit or Jasper 350 V-8 transplant. I guess the fact that Buick factory-installed the "power adder" makes it collectible and valueable to their owners...I don't know. The amazing thing is certain folks pay top dollar for a terrible chassis that only accelerates in a straight line. It's flexible 60-ish luxoboat technology and senior citizen bodystyle totally stinks. It has zero braking and handling. With or without chips and mods, it would be lapped by most any 80HP Kia or Hyundai sedan on a Road Racing Track. That comparison offers a more accurate measure of street/road performance (unless you're into peeling out at the McDonald's or acquiring wreckless driving tickets).

What a smacked a##

some people are still clueless. not a good bang for the buck? i guess he doesnt know a tr can run 12's all day with under 1k in mods. geez even in GMHTP they had a shootout with low buck 12 sec lt1 camaros and trans ams. typical corvette snobery he he.

[flame suit]I have to agree with some of them. off the dealership lots...the LT1 C4 Vette avgs anywhere in the 13s. 86/87 TRs, excluding the GNX, avg'd low 14s high 13s. the WE4 being amongst the 13 second TRs. [/flame suit]:p But the comment about our TRs not being ideal for the ¼ mile and not being a "bang for the buck" kind of car is completely bogus! To each his own though. At least a number of the Vette owners on that board are giving credit to the TR when it was due.

yeah corvette guys dont like us, probably because we have good gas mileage, cheap to go fast and decent gas mileage... every car show i go to, all the corvette guys stick there noses up

Generally speaking, when people talk like that its because they are feeling inadequate, and are blustering to make you think they are not inadequate. Let me get right down to the nitty gritty for you in case I didn't make myself clear....His p$$$s is one inch long....and he wants you to think its down to his knees ;)

He prolly drives one of those S-10's with the V-8 in it ;)

Consider the source. Its water off a ducks back.

i guess no one read the article they linked in their thread

http://popularmechanics.com/automotive/new_cars_trucks/1997/8/showdown_new_muscle_cars/print.phtml

im sure someone here has read it, but what the hell...

Driving the turbo Buick is a completely different experience from driving any other car here. There's no rumble from the engine, just an evil hiss from the turbocharger. Then, it breaks the tires loose at the top of First gear, which is a bit unnerving if you're not ready for it. And at full boost, it shoves you so hard into the seat that it feels like Hulk Hogan is standing on your chest.

thats right:D

We included the T-Type because it represents a perfect mix of the old and the new. It has an old-style sedan chassis like a classic musclecar, but it's powered by a high-tech, fuel-injected engine, like a modern musclecar. It's sort of a bridge between two eras. If Hansen had run with 15 psi of boost, he still would have beaten every old car except the Hemicuda

i like this...:p

Whoa there boys! I own a Vette and not all of us are snobs;) I also am the original owner of my GN and would love to slalom with the Vette guys:D I have set up my GN to turn and did it with little investment and it never fails to amaze people when I take it to a Road Course....so all I can say to the Vette owners that think these cars can't turn is BRING IT ON!:D

100% stock was the arguement and the LT1 would win...no doubt.....but give the LT1 guy 2 grand and a prayer and he'll see low 12's....give the GN guy 2 grand and he'll be deep in the 11's....i personally am not impressed by LT1's...my basically stock L98 beat many of LT1's, although it was a close race....im so far un impressed w/ my GN as well....i guess b/c its running like azz that its slow and its a hotair but my firebird would have killed this thing....its ok tho...im always up for a challenge! but the LS1, now thats an engine!!!

Racer X, that is interesting. How do you modulate the throttle in a turn? My cars have been pretty much all or nothing because of the turbo spool. :) The turns, the accel and decel are not a cup of tea with a turbo. Make me smart on these challenges ;)

Sorry, but most magazines had the GNx in the very low 13's showroom stock. GN's ranged brand new generally around 14.3, give or take a few tenths on the usual variables. I have an article where a completely stock GNx ran a stock TTA. GNx took 2 of 3 until (and I quote from memory), "the TTA driver learned how to launch properly" without spinning the hides and took the race decicively. They couldn't downplay the GNx's performance since it was known as THE premeire muscle car in the late 1980's.

In my opinion and with all things being equal, a factory stock TTA vs. a factory stock GNX will have the TTA winning most, if not all, 1/4 mile runs. But that's only opinion.

I ruled out the GNX, because I knew it did low 13s. I wrote

it's cool...I often misread a lot of things :p good thing I had my flame suit on :D

when my friend bought his gnx brand new, i watched him run 13.04 completely stock with no chip- over and over and over - stock tires

i was in bowling green kent at nationals when the new tta,s came out- all of them were running 13.04 completely stock including tires

Some of those guys were so stupid on this thread I had to register. I am just waiting for my password to be sent so I can respond.

I certainly do not like the attitude, but since he is coming from a road-racing perspective, he is not innacurate in most of his statements. I know many with GN-colored glasses will flame me for saying that. On the othr hand, most "sports car" owners who get their asses handed to them on the strip usually whine about how much better their car handles and stops :D :D I think if both sides had a chance to live with the other car they would both appreciate each car's strong points.

No, I agree my car doesn't handle for crap. But, I am used to it so I have no problem with it's handling. I just know the limits of what these cars can do as far as hadling and braking so i don't do stupid stuff in it.
