Looks like, here we go again with the GTO thing.
The car is really awesome, looks and all. If you have not driven one; you need to. I respect everyone’s opinion. But, commenting on looks alone is not fair to the whole package. It is an American muscle car. Some might say it is built in Australia so it is not American. Well if a Honda built in the US is still a Japanese car, a Pontiac GTO built in Australia by GM is an American car in my book. Many of us have long for the day that Muscle cars in America would come back well this is one of them. Again, do not put it down unless you have experienced the whole package. Handling, comfort and performance are all good. 13.8-¼ mile is what some of the fastest pure stock GN’s used to run new.
The retro look does not work (i.e. Thunderbird which has been discontinued). You need to be progressive thinkers.
I almost bought one until I drove the Cadillac CTS-V, another awesome Muscle car (I know Cadillac muscle sounds weird). Bought the Cadillac because of 13.2 ¼ mile, better handling and comfort. In my opinion and for the money a Cadillac CTS-V, Pontiac GTO and Z06 Corvette (not necessarily in that order) are the best buys in brand new Muscle cars today. If you do not like these go buy a Chrysler 300 HEMI (talk about something that is fugly). Or a new Mustang (which is a FORD).
Bottom line GTO might look to you like a Cavalier or Grand Am but it sure does not drive like one. If you have a 12 - 13 sec. GN be on the look, a GTO (or Cavalier/Grand Am if you want to call them that) might just blow your doors.
The movie, I thought, was great, clean fun entertainment. Only flaw……… GTO’s did not have radial T/A’s in the 70’s.
PEACE
