IF Buick was to reproduce the Grand National what would the

specs be and what do you guys think it would look like?

Twin turbo, rear wheel drive same engine displacement but stronger block with same trannie and posi traction, running 18psi from the factory. :)

Based on GM now, it would be a pile of ****.

I hope they never attempt another GN.

FWD/Supercharged..... they made a concept GNX looked like a Regal GS with some dress up....

Take a "new GTO" body, slap on a Regal grille and have a supercharged AND turbocharged V6 with a stout automatic transmission. Keep it 2 doors, too.

Too bad it would cost upwards of $35000 if GM ever got the sac to make one.:(

If you read the newest issue of Hot Rod they talk about a new V6 GM is producing. They even mention the option of twin turbos... Never know... Oh, and I'm NOT talking about the aluminum block from TA Performance although that would be sweet!

"BUICK" could easily do it if GM would allow them to. In the early-mid 90's they was testing a fwd Buick turbo'd V6 in the old-style GS. The powers that be of GM made them can it. I believe it was making 375 hp (according to a Buick rep and RL) but they kept breaking trannys. Gee, imagine that??

I think if there was a "new GN" it would be on the Holden platform. That's my thoughts.

I'd prefer for "BUICK" to cast a naturally aspirated V8 and go rwd with that cranking 375-400 hp and put that on a Holden platform.
That's what i'd like to see.

i bet it would look something like a cadalac CTS, or some other boxy type car. probably mild supercharged v8, frount wheel drive 4 door. probably nothing like the old gn. I would guess slower too, but maybe they would use a version of the ls6 or northstar, with a turbo that would run pretty good. lets hope they don't try it.

i would like to see the current regal with rwd...have your black and original t type colors...lil retro thrown in even tho gns arnt that old but hints towards the original...single turbo frnt mt i/c v6 with block all ready prepped for upgrades and some serious pressure!!!...auto trans...no TTOPS!...idk something like that..but no one at gm would put the time or money

I personally dont think we will ever see another car like the turbo cars of the mid 80's from Buick ever again.
For one thing, Buick doesnt even compete in most forms organized racing anymore. The original Grand National concept was to celebrate Buicks's participation in stock car racing. (Bush Grand National series?)
My other reason for thinking is that any car with that kind of performance would be out of the reach of most consumers now.
I could be wrong, but it doesnt appear as if GM will have anything to get excited (that the average person can afford) about within the next few model years.

since we are on this subject lets think what is the worst car GM built is?

to me the AZTECK gets my vote hands down, what a piece of crap.

At one point I thought they were trying to make the Monte Carlo/Impala RWD, but couldn't quite do it. Anyway, I'd love to see that happen. Use the Monte Carlo but please restyle the front end and turbo a V6 again. I like the style of the new MC, with the exception of the nose. It's still looks a bit like an updated G body, with a good profile. That would be a great car, perfect size, and a 2 door.

EDIT: Conditional on making it RWD!

If they were going to build another GN I would like it to have the same body as the 87 with changes to the radio system, dash and gauges as well has bigger wheels and tires and a beefed up suspension and an improved braking system. If they ever took the current Monte Carlo and put GN badges on it I would sell my current GN out of sheer embarrassment. GM is a joke now. they could never put something like this together ever again. Plus, they would end up putting traction control in it or something stupid like that.

I agree the Aztec is one of the worst GM's produced but there are so many pieces of junk produced by GM now I couldn't pick just one.

LOOK HERE

Ok, cmon guys your slacking look at the new age GN.

Buick Centieme

A 3.6-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 engine – good for 400 horsepower and 400 lbs.-ft. of torque – complements the spirited design. It is mated to a Hydra-Matic 4T65-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transaxle.

Centieme also features General Motors’ Versatrak all-wheel-drive system, advanced traction control that transfers torque from front wheels to rear, and from side to side, to maintain control on various road surfaces. The front end uses a strut configuration, while the rear employs an SLA independent suspension with coils for car-like performance and handling.

What do you guys think about this?

as ghey as it looks id buy one and swap the motor/drivetrain into something a little better looking like a Grand Prix or something i could get it in w/o a bunch of hacking work. 400 All Wheel Driven hp/tq in a little GP or something would be nice. makes a good sleeper even stock (Centieme) though.

If GM make it now? It would probably suck.

If I had it my way? A 2-door sport sedan, RWD, with a 300+ HP turbo V6.

Styling? I don't know, just don't let the current design teams at GM do it. LOL

I looked at that ugly pos for about a secound and almost lost my lunch!!! what are they thinking????????? good idea on the engine, and if they can make the traction controll thing work right it would be cool too, but it would probably limit too much power knowing how they do things now. but i would much rather havea gn than that ugly beast, or give me one of thoes and i'll sell i for a gnx...
