As some of you recall, I developed a nasty ticking noise a couple of weeks ago. The noise was coming from the bottom end, and I've heard it before. Rod knock. I pulled the motor and #1 rod bearing was hammered, but did not look like it had spun. #5 and 6 were worn at the bottom of the saddle, as well.

I took everything apart and dropped it off at the engine builder a couple weeks ago.

I went down to the engine builder today and found out the rods had not been resized, were not perfectly round, and this had probably caused the problem with #1, 5, and 6 rod bearings. The #1 crank journal was hammered and I will have to have the crank turned 20/20. The rods will get resized. The block will be cleaned and prepped, but the only thing necessary there is a hone. Everything will get double checked.

The builder is also going to do some mild portwork and cleanup on the heads, five angle valve grind, and springs checked, and the heads and intake will be gasket matched.

Unfortunately I forgot to pull the lifters out of the block during disassembly, turned the motor upside down on the stand, and the lifters fell out. I went ahead and purchased a hydraulic Rev 2X cam, 212/218, .462/.470, 110, and new lifters. This replaces the 212/212, .459/.459, 110 that was in it.

The crank and rods will remain stock, the pistons are TRW's, and the center main caps are the billet deals. ARP bolts were used throughout.

Am I missing anything here, guys?

Thanks.

Looks like you were pretty thoural to me, Good gaskets and check everyhting one more time!! make for certain that if your runnin an oil cooler you flush the hell out of it or replace it and the hoses, otherwise get that thing together and in and let'er rip!

You might pick the lifters up off the floor after they fell when you turned the engine over while on the stand:o LOL.

If the crank was setup for that block before hand, i guess you dont need a line bore. If the cyl bore is good, id start looking for a std crank so you can build it a few more times.

Im sure everyone told you this, if you pop the motor, get rid of the radiator.

Show us some pics of the thrust bearing if you get a chance, maybe there is a few issues....

Good advice on the cleaning the oil cooler thing...I tend to miss the little crap like that!!
