After a couple of 1.6 60fts back in nov at Renyolds I haven't been back to the track. I went this past fri and on the 3rd pass I got a 1.7 and it felt like it fell off at the top of 1st. The last pass I spun and it didn't do it. I had it overfilled by 1qt. After playing with it on the street this am it is slipping on the 1-2 at full throttle. I had to turn boost down to 12# to stop it from blowing the tires off.:)
I am fixing to have a brake and billet input shaft put in. And a deep pan.
I have about 3k miles on the trans could I possibly just change the band out?
It still hits very hard at less than wot.

You will need a new or resurfaced drum. You need to find the cause of the failure first though. You might want to put in a deflector or go with a deeper pan if you are launching the car hard. The band requires removal of the vb and a couple big snap rings. You could do it if you are familiar with an automatic and have a little patience. Get a manual from Chris at CK performance.

Bison-

My car has no second gear, it goes from first to third and if i am cruising down the road in 3rd and manually downshift to 2nd it acts like it is in neutral.

You mentioned that the band could be replaced by removing the valve body in this thread.

If the band pin just broke, do you think it could be done in the car?

Thanks
BW

the band is something that very seldom goes out in a 2004r,and it doent matter if it hits hard at part throttle but wide open.like brian said ,get ready to replace the band and drum as well if burnt.

Just pulled the tranny out of BW's car, it needed to be pulled out anyway.

Thanks

The trans has to be pulled to change the band and drum. But it can be done without any special service tools. I think you may have just broke the band anchor or broke the lug off the band so it wont apply. Id be willing to bet the hole is no longer round where the band lug locates it if it has enough pressure to snap off the lug. You may be able to fix it in car but i would tear it down myself.

Neil and i pulled the trans tonight, and i have a new Mike Kurtz HP band from 2001 that does not have anything but the band with the metal ends...

I was assuming that the new band would come with hardware to make it attach, since im no tranny guy, is there a new style band that i should purchase that may be better than the one i already have?

Or new hardware to make this band stick in the future?

I appreciate your help and i was going to get the trans freshen up with new steels and clutches along with a spare Mike Kurtz trans shift kit that i purchased in 01....

Id use an Alto red band. Its the best band available for the 200-4R.
