Thinking of getting Alky kit, are my scan master readings ok for alky ?

My car is tuned as best as I can and have the following readings at idle and at operating temperature. I would like to know if any of these numbers are out of spec for alky or just in general

Again at idle my readings are
02 566
AF 05
L8 36
INT 128
BL 120
ATS 89 - 90
TPS .42
IAC 16
cc 34 - 240
Using a turbo tweak chip. At WOT with 18 lbs of boost runing some race gas I get .05 knock at the top of third gear with an o2 reading of 820

I dont see any problems with those numbers. The fuel can come down some as the BL is at 120, as is the WOT 820 number. So its a tad rich. But leaning it out will make the knock activity increase.

So yes, put the alky kit on.. should be able and go substantially higher boost wise. If the ignition system and bottom end is sound, mid 20's should be no issues.

Lastly, get with Eric and have him reburn the chip for alky. Which will then have higher timing and benefit performance over the street version.

Is it possible to still run the 93 oct. TT chip or is it a MUST to have it reburned for the alky?

sorry for the stupidity but I'm still learning about alky....if you have your street trim TT chip controlling your boost levels (14-16psi) do you have to manually turn up the wastegate in order to obtain more boost for alky or will the alky automatically increase the amount of boost without ever having to touch the wastegate rod?

Not sure on your base Fuel Pressure but it looks like you can drop it at least 1psi.

Not sure what your octane comes out to with the blend of race gas but .05 knock seems like an odd amount to me. But without knowing your timing and blended octane level it is hard to recommend what to do for you. Might need a simple 1 degree timing pull out or just a Power Plate addition from RJC.

Scanmaster looks good here too and Razor can take you to a new level with alky so give him a call.

Yes run the street chip. Fueling is practically the same as the alky chip.

Your boost is controlled by the wastegate tension and bleeding done by the GM solenoid on the valvecover. So the chip plays with boost a little, but if you need more boost.. you have to crank the wastegate rod shortening it.

The alky kit provides the octane needed to run higher boost. But you need to set this up. And on stock actuators, your typically limited to about 20 PSI before you need a HD version. But you first worry about getting the car to run 20 PSI before worrying about 25 PSI :D

Which tuning setup would work better for my boost situation...

HD wastegate OR stock style adj. wastegate with a RJC manual boost controller??

reason i ask is because ive been hearing a lot of people saying that the HD wastegate wont go lower than 20psi and i would like to have the option to turn the boost a bit lower than that in case of an emergency. With that said, normally i would like to be running about 23psi once i get alky in the car.

In case of an emergency? If you need to lower boost becuase you dont have alcohol, engine is having issues, or??? then pull the arm of the actuator and boost will come down. And in case of emergency.. DONT RACE THE CAR.

If your wanting to have your cake and eat it too.. then spend the money on an external wastegate like a Tial 38, and buy an electronic boost controller so you can set boost to your hearts content. But this gets wayyy of topic.

If your on a budget, start with the RJC and stock actuator and see how it goes. Then make your decisions how "Your car" responds.

Old saying... "Dont jump of the Titanic until it hits the iceburg" meaning dont overthink decisions and handle them one step at a time.. as money permits.

What if's abound when modifying a car... one small step at a time.

so your saying that if i dont have alcohol for whatever reason i can just take off the arm of the actuator and then the boost will be controlled by the chip??

Nope. Search how the wastegate works on your turbo. Puck hole opened.. =no boost.

Like I said, stock adjustable actuator and RJC bleeder is "the starting" point. Complicate accordingly after that.

Search articles pertaining to wastegates, turbochargers, boost control, etc.. and start the reading.

with the setup you just mentioned above, will that allow me to tune for appropriate alky boost levels (20-25psi)??

Get the alky kit first, max out the stock actuator, tune for 20 psi or so, then reevalute your options after you read up a tad and learn some more.

I wish my local tech school offered a TR tuning class, I'd sure take it.

+1

Need to make a TR tuning guide.. :D
