Oh crap, the GN has a ticking noise coming from the underside of the car. It only happens when the RPMs are raised above 1500 rpm, in any gear (haven't checked reverse though), when the car is warmed up. There is no noise when it is cold. The converter is brand new and the trans is a fresh rebuild, so I am doubting that they are the culprits. The TCC locks up (with authority...feels like a gear change) as it always has, or when I hit the lockup switch. The converter bolts are tight. I checked the flexplate when I did the trans and it looked OK, no visible cracks. The oil pressure is good, 60 psi cold idle, 20 psi hot idle, 45-50 psi cruising when warmed up, so I can't imagine that it would be a bearing problem, and the car does not sputter, backfire, or stumble at any RPM or throttle position, so I that would kind of rule out a flat cam lobe, correct? The cam sensor has never been touched.

I didn't remove the crossover pipe when I put the trans in so I don't think it's leaking, and it doesn't sound like an exhaust leak anyway.

Regardless, the car goes like hell. No driveability problems whatsoever, it's running harder and faster than it ever has (thanks to the new higher stall converter and the crisp, cool 50º weather :D). And it doesn't seem to register any excessive KR (less than 1º) on the Scanmaster. The noise hasn't gotten any louder or harsher. What the hell could it be?

TIA
Steve

I would check 3 things, Does it do it in gear as well as out of gear? If so then make sure your convertor bolts are tight. I have seen these come loose. Since you replaced the TC you might want to check. Also look at your exhaust manifolds. If they are stockers then they will have a tendancy to crack between the 3 and five cylinders on the drivers side. This is the most common place. Sometimes it a a little checking as the crack can be small and on the inside of manifold facing the block. Last then could be a lifter. If the engine is stock there is little chance of this but something to check.
