If you can launch a car with a 4500 stall converter and 5lbs boost and get a decent 60 ft time, can you use a 3800 stall converter and launch with 10 lbs boost and accomplish the same results? Is the boost at launch more important then the rpm? If the 60ft suffers some from the tighter converter is it possible to make up the time with the higher mph from the tighter converter? Thanks

i have a d-6 convertor stalling at 1556 rpm and 5# of boost thats brake and gas floored and i get a 2.2 60 foot. thats no tire spin so i think if i get a 3000 stall i should get a 2.0 or 1.9. also my 1/4 times are 14.3 at 98 with that convertor and 18# on 94 octane. so the answer to your question is i think boost plays a major factor in 60' times now your motor will only boost under a load so if you have a loose convertor it wont spool up as much as a tight one. now if your brakes can hold you can load up a loose convertor maybe 3400 on a 3000 stall to get more boost.

an engine that turns 5500 max such as the case with most turbo v6s will sit on its balls after the launch if it only has 1000 rpms to use to get to 2nd gear.also as soon as it starts to boost above the 5lbs itll blow right thru the converter and youll be left with a screaming lunatic that walks backwards.ie a revving engine that covers no ground.the 3800 would produce better results all around imo

chris you just described my car? It is a stage motor so it will rev higher but I have just used 17 to 20 lbs boost and a max 6300 rpm shift. I wont go higher in boost cause my car acts like a n/a car and is in 3rd gear before the 1/8 and stays at 6k to 6300 the rest of tha way. I go through the 1/8 at 107 mph and 6200 rpm and stay at 6200 to 6300 the rest of the 1/4 and run 10.2 at 129. The car doesnt feel like its pulling in 3rd. With boost at 17 lbs it runs a 102 1/8 and a 10.7 at 127mph. Just dont want to give back the 1.4 60ft by going to a tighter converter unless the tighter 3rd gear will make up for it with more mph? You hit it right on the head my car sounds like a screaming lunatic once I get to 6k and into 2nd and 3rd. Thanks
