Time for a rebuild?

Hi Guys,
Trans has been sloppy and shifting strange since my last outing at the track. I should mention that as far as I have been able to tell this is an original 100k+ mile trans. I set the tv cable so it didn't stop WOT throtlle movement, yet appeared to be all the way out, and the shifts were very soft. Tried pushing the cable in and manually opening the throttle to let it "click" to position. Shifts were then nice and firm but i couldn't open the throttle body all the way. well I could but I was really stretching things:( I think I may be just providing a band-aid for a worn trans. WE-4 and other trans guys, what do you think?

Two questions...

  1. Has the transmission been serviced recently; i.e. fluid/filter change?
  2. Does it have a shift improvement kit installed?

trans stuff

1. Yes, just recently changed fluid and filter.

2. No, no shift kit that I know of.

thanks for helping.

Well, with that many miles on it, an overhaul may be in your near future.

If it responded well to increased pressure via the TV cable adjustment, you may get some more mileage out of it with a shift improvement kit. It will bolster your operating pressure and allow for quicker clutch fill times.

The best part is, that come rebuild time, the kit can stay installed so that you can benefit from it after the overhaul.
