stock 86 TR transmission that was rebuilt by someone for previous owner. Has stock stall torque converter. Drove 10 mi today and it began slipping really bad on 1-2 shifts with engine rpm getting up to 3-4k with light throttle in Drive. Car will not move from a flat stop while idling in D (drive) with no throttle. car only moves forward when significant throttle is applied - over 3k rpm. I don't hear any nasty noises

i checked the fluid level with trans hot and in park on level surface, and fluid looks ok but the level appears slightly higher than operational range. I changed the trans fluid in July with type F set to operational range. a large fluid leak coming from under the torque converter cover - i have not had a chance to pull the cover to inspect where the leak is coming from.

sounds like the front pump took a dive .

Finally back on the road again after a lot of time under the car. took it for an easy break-in drive today! moderate throttle shifts this week.

now i can work on all of the other problems, lol (cracked stock header discovered while fixing trans)

Converter puked and took out the whole trans when burned-up bits went through the system.

not sure why the converter died. talked with the builder about cutting it open to figure out weak link. this didn't happen.

re-stalled D5 LU is in there now. LU seems to work better than before. shifts are much, much firmer.
