See if I'm right......

# 1 piston TDC

cam sprocket @ 6 O'clock
crank sprocket @ 12 O'clock

Is this the correct position for the timing (stock?)

Also, car is back-firing thru the exhaust.....
(this is a friends car so I haven't seen it yet and 'am not 100% what all he has done to it) which to me would indicate timing out of whack.

Also what about setting the cam sensor..I know you can buy a device that lets you know when it is set properly..but isn't there an easier way to do this?

ANY HELP would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks,
JOE

Timing

Hi Joe,
I have always set the timing gears to the matching of Dot to Dot. The cutter key on the crank should be about in the 2'o clock position with the gears on dot to dot also 1# in TDC. Almost sounds like cam sensor adjustment. You can get the car running by rotating the cam sensor left or right until it starts. But upon CS install make sure the window of the SC is facing the power steering pump and that the engine is on TDC. Then rotate motor 1.5 inches past TDC and set the voltage to the lowest your digital multimeter will read the tighten the CS down. The car should start, if it backfires then you went past the thrashhold. Recheck the installation of the spark plug wires as well.
Hope this helps.
Tom ;)

Tom, Thanks for the info...I was thinking the ol' 12-6 O'clock position was correct, but was still unsure about the backfire problem. I was thinking it could be the CS but was not 100% sure. Like I said, I haven't got to look at the car as of yet, but I'm sure it will be coming here soon. So, I'm also sure I'll have to go back to see what all this guy has done, or has not done correctly.

Thanks again Tom....:)

JOE

(When you say "window" of the CS...is the window the plug-in?)

CS Window

If you remove the CS cap, you'll see a cut out on the gold CS cup. That cut out is the window.

ok...Thanks Tom....
probably common knowledge to regulars here...but, I'm learning.

Thanks again for for the info.
