Hey guys, I have a problem. I put race fuel "116 octane" in my gn for the first time and my scan master is still showing 38.3 degrees of retard !! Any reasons this could be happening ?? I have a stout fuel system with 55lbs injectors. People on here tell me i need 72's. I will get them as soon as i recoupe from buying this money pit... The guy i boought it from made 580 rwhp with this combo. Any ideas

At that high HP level, any Knock Retard over 10 degrees will completely destroy every single thing in the motor. Do a search on "false knock" and you will find a ton of suggestions.

Could be lots of things, a downpipe contacting the frame causing a noise the computer thinks is knock. Tirespin can cause a false KR reading. Some have had problems with noisy cams and valvetrains causing false KR as well.

the valve train is very noisey.. 212/212 cam nothing else hitting but a ton of tire spin. with 275/60/15 bfg drag radials

When do you see the kr? All through the run, or does it show up at certain points and go away?? What is your combo? Turbo/ chip and o2s? With c16 you should not be seeing any real knock(Much less 30 some odd degrees), unless something is really out of whack. Its gotta be false, if your car is still running.

its a .20 over stock block. billit caps. ported stock heads." very nice port work" atr headers 212/212 cam 55's t-66 turbo precision fmic . fuel system: cell with -10 to a-1000 fuel pump -8 supply line. bosch regulator still factory rails. -6 return. 44lbs fuel pressure . red's chip 93 street when all this is happening. I am to scared to put the race chip in it !!!! I dont know what brand o2 but i am going to get a new one tomorrow

I too have been chasing a false knock problem for
quite sometime, mine happens only when I floor the
car either from a stop or while driving. If I exlerate
slowly it usually runs fine, but as soon as I nail the
throttle the scanmaster shows 38*of retard and the
car stumbles and falls on it's face until I let off. I've
checked my down pipe, fuel pressure,02's and every
thing checks out ok. I also have a Reds 93 chip in my
car. However, I just ordered a new chip from Red which
will have a 4 second knock delay built in it. I figure this
should take care of my problem until I locate the source
of the false knock. If your knock is occuring when you nail
the throttle then maybe you might consider a new chip
with a knock delay in it. Assuming that you have good fuel
pressure and your 02's are good then you could unplug
your knock sensor temperarely and see how it runs, this
will confirm that it truely is false knock. When I unplug mine
the car runs great.

Knock delay?

I thought the 4 second knock delay was just for the first four seconds after a launch, on the theory that the knock is less likely to be fatal in first and second gear. Does it work for a sudden acceleration on the street, too? How does it to that safely?

Yes, you are correct about the delay being used for the
first 4 seconds after the car is launched or if the exelerator
is kicked down while cruising under 70 mph. However, once
you get over 70 mph the delay does not work. I think that is
how Red explained it to me.

You guys need to get a laptop based scan tool in the car so you can record a run and see exactly where the knock is occuring. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Scanmaster only shows the most knock and retard seen. You need to know when it's happening.
