timing w/fast?(help)

craig or someone have the fast wide band on a521 ford msd dist. set crank ref at 50 btdc and dropeed the dist in did this many times just line up #1 with the rotor and it is close maybe 4-5 degrees off now do i need to trick the sytem on base timing set if comp show 38 it is 34 on the light etc or cant seem to pin it down with cahnging the crank ref angle one way or another what am i doing wrong?

Sounds like you're close. Set the ref angle in the software to 50, line the motor itself up at 50, and drop the distributor in so that the tab for #1 on the pickup wheel under the rotor is centered in the pickup. If you are just a few degrees off, you should be able to adjust the ref angle in the software or twist the distributor until the computer and the timing light match up.
