To change or not to change.

I have a 55k mile car. The fluid was last changed about 20k miles ago. I am concerned that if I change it now I run the chance of burning the entire tranny. I have no slippage and the shifts are good and firm under load. The fluid is still red. What are the pros and cons of changing the fluid now?

if the fluid is red and transparent in color dont change it with high mileage original unit
