tolulene injection ?s

Hey ya'll, I came across this last night on the tacoma forum:

I've been using a gallon of tolulene per 16 gals of gas to aleviate the low end knock the SC'd tacos have problems with for a few months. It goes for $30/5gals and is 114 octane unleaded paint solvent. This looks like it has some good potential, but want your input. DO any of you guys use this stuff? I'd elaborate on the system for tuning, but think the base setup is a start.

Guys mix it with gas, usually 3 parts gas to 1 part toluene (or xylene) to raise octane but no one injects it alky style. It will fry a standard pump in short order and does not mix with water like alcohol
Even mixed with gas make sure you use a pump lubricant

What pump lubricant do you reccommend? It wouldn't be injected alky style or mixed with water. If you read the linked page, it has a plan for injecting it. Basically thru an extra injector setup. One of the main advantages of it is for daily driving because it would only come on at boost when you need it, so you don't waste it in non WOT driving because its expensive and you don't need it 100% of the time. If it will fry a standard pump, what type of pump should I use? Or should I just use the lube and it will b ok? I don't plan on spending lots of money on the pump and injector (junkyard), but do plan on driving the injector with an extra injector controller of some sort, there are lots of em out there. Whatever pump/injector I use would have to be a popular item so I can replace it when the pressure starts to drop. They make it sound like it won't do anything to the pump, but it is thin stuff and I'd be more worried about lubin the cylanders as if I was running high octane fuel.

Odd that he doesn't mention actually having done this, just all talk.
In his F1 scenario, they used Toluene, but it was in the fuel not added like he suggests. The also ran/ run fuels that require serious HAZMAT handling.

His comments on water injection are laughable.

Reading some of the NACA papers would give you a leg up on what he's misinformed about.

His water injection comments are bunk. And his comments about burnt valves must, the reason they burn must be from a lean invironment. He did strike me as talking out his azz, but I still want to do some research. Where can I find the NACA papers? Do a search?

I doubt F1 cars would use an extra injector with a pump/injector from a junk yard...LOL They can afford to burn it all the time. Thanks for the good info.

You could probably make it a week or two before the str8 toluene locked up the injector, not to mention the pump. Our systems give us a higher effective octane than that system also.

Ya, the realistic thing to do is alky. Why not just pump in 114 octane race fuel thru the extra injector? Why would tolulene be any better than race gas, it isn't.

I appreciate your advice.

I tested toluene at a few differant ratios and I noticed that it makes a good octang booster even in ratios as low a 20:1 or 6oz toluene per gallon gas, even at these low ratios there was a deeper exhaust note and a stronger pull through the higher gears were engine loads raise. But this was on my V8 I dont know how it works on a T buick. The toluene is 114 octang and when mixed it will delute but I dont think its the octang that really make the noticable power gain but I think its the fact that toluene is harder to ignite due to its higher octang but once ignited it burns faster and spreads the flame quicker so it helps the normal gas light up as well creating an overall faster combustion. Well thats my thery Take it as you may!!!
