How much force is needed to rotate the torque converter with the flywheel disconnected? I use a 12 inch screwdriver in the mounting bolt flange to turn the converter but I have to pull really hard to get any movement. I may be looking at a rebuild anyways, the trans makes clicking noises as it turns.

It should rotate easily... fingertip pressure whilst holding it up a bit so that the nose doesn't drag in the crankshaft. I don't know enough to be able to tell you what is broken (the pump is my best guess), but it should not be clicking. The pump normally turns very easily, and the clutches are obviously all disengaged so the gear train wouldn't be involved.

(I guess a fried clutch pack could change that, but it still shouldn't turn as hard as you describe).

Good luck.
