Im putting a new set of stock heads on my 85 t type and was wondering what the pattern was for tightening? Thanks

Hi,
The Ten bolts should all be replaced. All BLOCK thread holes should be chased with a tap.All BLOCK holes should then be blown out with compressed air. After that, a good bolt sealant should be applied to the threads about 1/2 inch above the tip of each bolt. At that point,it would be a good idea to put a few drops of oil on the bolt tips and ready for assembly. NO way you want to have an unlubricated hole!
Look below for ideas on the torque pattern for these heads.

7 5 1 3 10

9 4 2 6 8

The bottom line is,it's a remarkable time, don't you think? That's it!

oil under the washer of the bolt as well. Lubricates when tightening the bolt to the head surface. ;)

pattern

Is there an exact pattern to torque them down? I am also using arp head bolts. Thanks

torque

Hi,
I see that I screwed up again, as there are only 8 head bolts on a Buick V6. Oops! With ARP bolts, I would torque them in three stages: 35 lb-ft, then 60 and finally 90 lb-ft. They are grade 8 stuff, should handle the extra twist. I personally wouldn't worry about retorque;the factory doesn't, so why should we? This is my view, anyway. Good luck!

no way its 90 psi with threads sealer its 65 oil its 80 better read your specs on the arp instructions

Im using ARP bolts. The instructions do say 65 ft lbs with thread sealer and 85 with motor oil.

do not use oil use thread sealer because bolts go throught coolant passages
