i have an 84 toyota pickup that i have put a 3.8 buivk v6 in. its all custom done, headers, holly fuel injection the whole 9 yards its got a 6in lift sitting on 35'its a really pretty truck, its not a four wheeler just a show truck, i have been looking into turbos for it, to see what i can do to put a little more horse power in it. it right now has the stock axels and tranny, but those will be replaced witht either ford 9 or shortened dana 44's anyways, whats a good tranny that i could bolt up to this engine? what would it take to put turbo in it? as far as how much room do i need can i cut the hood, scoop? any input would be great. thanxs wead

Back in 88-89 I had a 85 toyo and also put a buick v6 in it.
No turbo though.
Have you ever ran it? Mine went 16.03 forgot the mph.
That was with 33" tires and stock gears.
Anyway,I think some here knows of somebody who put a non intercooled v6 in a truck like yours. Thinking back, I remember there being ample room on both sides and under the motor.
Probably could be done with a custom down pipe.
Good luck with it.

I have heard that keeping it running cool is the biggest problem...The turbo creates a LOT of underhood heat...Are you thinking of running the carburated style turbo setup on your motor???

I'm actually in the process of collecting parts right now to put a Buick 350 into my 86 Toyota XtraCab 4x4 :D Should be fun...gonna run a 700r4 with a NP208 transfer case out of a fullsize mid-80s Chevy 4x4...Should be sometime later this summer before it's done...

Back in 1985, my brother and I put a 1978 Turbo Buick (4bbl) into my 1984 Toyo. It had 2" spring lift and a 3" body lift. I ran 33" Ground Hawgs, it would ROOT !

We used a BOP TH 350 with a chevy 4X4 output shaft (no custom, it's a bolt in) and a new NP 205 transfer case. We had to move back the crossmember and make a new mount. I used indoor hockey pucks for the isolation. There was plenty of room for all of it. We did have to space up the back of the hood by 1/4" for air cleaner clearance. We even used the stock Toyo radiator. I would put in a better radiator looking back cause it did get occasionally hot. Airflow was great though because of all the draft under the truck (it sat up pretty high). :)

I had stock gears and axles (4.11 posi) and never broke anything. The motor had a KB turbo cam, HO HEI coil, Holley 390 vacuum sec 4 bbl and stock turbo (rebuilt). It would light up those tires and that was OLD SCHOOL power.

It was a sleeper and I would even street race it occasionally (never for money though). I miss that truck but it would be a rust pile if still around today.

email me with specific questions...
