I have a 88 Mont Carlo SS with stock 305. I've been planning to install a 350 HO crate engine (330 HP and 380 ft lbs torque) later this year. Unfortunately, my 200-4R tranny is about to die and there isn't a dependable tranny shop that I know of in central Arkansas. I have to purchase a transmission within the next week and I can't spend more than $1500 (tranny + converter).
I ran across the TPI Performance website. They have a heavy-duty "GN" style 200-4R with what looks to have decent modifications. TPI 200-4R trannys cost about $1500 and come with a 12" 2000 stall converter and 1 yr unlimited mileage warranty.
I would greatly appreciate any information about TPI Performance transmissions. Is this a good, dependable company? Does anyone have experience with TPI Performance trannys?
All I want is a dependable daily driver with moderate pep and get decent gas mileage. Please help me get a good tranny without getting ripped off!!
Thanks,
