I don't think my torque converter locks up at WOT anymore. I have a switch that I usually flip about 1/2 way thru 2nd gear, but I can't "feel" it like I used to. My car does make more power since I "noticed" the lockup and 2 passes with and without hitting the switch yield no change. I know it works at cruise, I can feel that. Is it possible that it slips? If so, do you think it's a sign of other things???

TIA,
Scott

Pull the panel under the drivers side and there are two switches on the brake pedal. Check to see if they are being pushed all the way in when your foot is off the brake.

Coincidentally has your cruise control quit working also?

I know the pedal switch is ok. It does lockup, I just don't think it does at WOT anymore.

How do u lock up the torque converter? Heared with a paper clip? thanks. Sorry about the butt in :D .

I'm getting old and don't remember which pin. You ground the upper left(?) pin on the ALDL connector under the dash. I have a column shift and no center console so I mounted a switch where the ashtray was, spliced one terminal to that pin and the other to ground.

Its the top left and right terminals on the ALDL port.

Scott what mph did you have Red burn into that chip for the lockup? You should see a drop of a couple hundred rpms at that speed. Unless you specifically had it burned in there I dont think it will do it.

Do a WOT blast and engage the lockup with your switch. If it holds you know it is the chip. If not you need to talk to WE4 (Bruce) maybe the clutch drum is weak or something

One is ground and one is the terminal to lock up. It locks up when you short them with a paperclip, or better yet a switch. :)

That was my thought, but want to know if this is possible. The chip does not lockup other than factory settings. It will lock at part throttle when I throw the switch, but I just don't seem to "feel" it at WOT anymore.

I just wonder if this slip is possible and a sign if impending failure. I know it's old and tired and I don't understand the internals of the TC and tranny. On the other hand, it may be that I can't "feel it.
