Stopped at a parts store today, and when I started to drive home, I realized my speedo read 0. The trip OdO was lit but not progressing and the gas gauge was also illuminated. Checked my scanmaster and the speedo function was also on 0 as I was driving. I'll play with it tomorrow, but any suggestions? Could it be an ecm malfunction? I had no malfunction code or lite.

If it still has a display than it almost has to be in the cable or maybe one of the drive/driven gears in the trans. Reading zero means the cable isn't turning.

Sorry, forgot to mention the odometer was working and advancing. Digital trip was not advancing.

If there's no ECM code, and the scan tool shows MPH as you're driving, the problem is in the cluster, most likely the connector on it. If you get a code, it's most likely the VSS Buffer problem.
Remove the digital cluster only, then check its connector behind the cluster, in the dash cradle.

Hey John........I'm getting a 0 on the scanmaster and the speedo but odometer is moving. No codes or light. Do you think it's the ecm? It's probably the first thing I'll change anyway. Any thoughts? TIA

V.S.S.

First check your gages fuse. 20A.

Gages fuse runs the service engine light too I believe so that may be out if this fuse is blown.

Easy test anyway.

Look for sensor

There is a sensor that connects on my 84 between the spedo cables on the drivers fender near fire wall. The connection termanates behind the radio then goes to the Ecu. Your Spedo will work scan master will show as 0. It uses a hall effect I.C. check your connections if good than it could be the sender.
