I have had this car for about a year and a half. Fixed many problems and added many mods. But my car is still not quick. It does not snap my neck back when i give it full throttle from a dead stop like my eclipse used to do. Peel outs are hard to do without power braking. These are my remaining problems:

...SM2 and digital dash show that i am running like 30 when i am actually running 70mph (affects timing and fuel econ?)

...Engine roars when i floor it but car does not take off immediately
....non-BRf tranny may be slipping minimually (rebuilt a year )ago
...Torque convertor says D7 and maybe stalls at 2000-2300 rpms

...Radiator holds temps at 190 deg, but winter is coming anyway

...New PCV valve shoots oil in intake still (no oil in intercooler)

...Possibly bungled up my intake gasket change cause engine picks up speed when starter fluid is sprayed in the pcv hole (checked it about 7 months ago)

All spring cleaning has been done twice since i had the car. Tps is set. Minimual knock and o2's in the range of 770-810 at wot and 93 octane. I think i have good vacuum cause there is a big difference between static and non static FP, about 8psi i think. FP is set at 42 with thrasher since 45 makes me run pretty rich (mph related?). Boost is at 16-17.

I have never felt how a real "GN" should run, and feel that my GN probably does not even match the performance levels of the stock ones with my mods. :(

On the bright side it looks fast and runs fast at highway speeds. :)

Are you running a GM PCV?

What is the vaccum/boost reading when the car is idling in Park?

What is the tranny?

Stock fuel pump? When was the last time you change the fuel filter?

What is your IAC readings?

Look for any exhaust leaks first, header cracks etc...

And the torque convertor is a BIG problem. Fix that and you'll be on your way, in a hurry.

I have oil and a vac guage that has not been installed yet. I may install it this week

Tranny is a plain 2004r of a NA regal probably. It does not slip too much, only a little at wot from lower speeds.

Dont know what type of fuel pump i have. But it is apparantly doing okay delivering fuel cause of my 02 readings. It does have a whine. If i put my turn signal on, the sound gets lower and higher alternatively. So i guess i need to put a hotwire kit in.

IAc are at 30 or below. fuel filter has been changed twice. PCV valve changed twice with Stock Ac delcos.

May order a orange stripe or similar cheap lockup convertor. Maybe even get a d5 . Have full aftermarket exhuast, with no leaks apparent. I gotta double check the crossover bolts.

I have changed waterpump and heater core so far. Timing set and valve springs are on my mind at the 100,000 mile mark. Car has 73,000 now.

I also Plan on getting max effort mafless chip, paired with 009 injectors and BSTC controller. I got in on the GP purchase of the smc alchol injection and have not installed the kit yet.

Money is kinda tight, so i am trying to do things that are important first.

Sorry for this complicated post, i would not even reply

You have some nice mods. As suggested, getting a true brf tranny will make a world of difference I believe. Although the cost of a tranny with a decent rebuild isn't cheap, you could save some cash by using a stock convertor with it. They work pretty dang well if you ask me.:)

I understand you feel comfortable with the fuel pump, but I would suggest getting a Walbro pump & a hotwire kit just to be on the safe side. That way you would know that your fueling system is taken care of.

You could probably add alot more performance goodies, but I don't think you're car is going to run much better until the tranny/convertor issue is addressed. The motor/tranny go hand in hand.

Good luck.:)

Certainly you are losing tons through the converter/trans. Address that.

Don't worry about not peeling out 'cept for powerbreaking. That's a good thing - peels only waste power. OF course there is a point of return on investment where tires won't be able to hold - but as a rule not peeling allows more power transfer to the ground and not 'into space' .

Don't worry about finding a true BRF transmission...just get a good perfoemance build done to the one you have.

FUEL PUMP! It is relatively inexpensive and knowing it is good enough is worth the small investment.

check for any exhaust leaks.

If you think you goofed the intake gaskets, FIX IT. Nothing will pressurize right if they are screwed up.

I think you know what you need to do...DO IT>

I would start right there with the intake gaskets. You need to get the car in tune before it will run the way you want it to.Also hot wire that fuel pump.

Thanx for all your replies. :)

I am gonna hold out on the tranny rebuild and put a d5 convertor on for the time being and see where that takes me. One thing i forgot to mention is that the lockup soleniod stays locked up on deceleration sometimes at highway speeds. This may be related to my MPH error.

I will check that intake gasket again through the pcv hole. Car seem to boost properly, and FP changes proportionally with it.

I had a nightmare hell of a time when i changed the gasket. Got rtv everywhere. Could not get the fuel lines to line up and thread properly. I guess doing it a second time will be easier.

These cars are so much fun to work with even though they act up sometimes. Thank god for this forum though, otherwize my GN would have been sold long time ago.
