To pull out of my garage I have to back up in reverse on an incline. When I do this the trans feels like it is slipping or if I was running a high stall converter which I am not. Is this normal because the converter is not locked up or is the trans starting to go? In all forward gears the trans shifts perfect and the previous owner stated it had been rebuilt.

sounds normal.here is an easy test to verify the reverse clutch packs are holding.power brake the car in drive and note the maximum attainable rpm.now power brake the car in reverse and do the same thing .if the rpms go higher than in drive and climb if you keep your foot into it the reverse clutch packs are damaged or the line pressure in reverse is low.then install a gage to verify pressure readings are ok.

a worn or misassembled int / rev boost valve,pr valve ,v body gaskets l/r ball not seating,lo overrun valve, leaking lip seals in the lo reverse or hi drum, missing low reverse case seal worn direct drum id or seal rings, .

THANKS CHRIS

It sounds like some of those things would also cause a slip in 1,2,3, and or 4th gear too.

Not really a hyjack - I hope. I have a slip in reverse and no slip in forward gears so I am trying to understand this problem.

I believe my TV spring is holding the TV valve a bit open (long) causing 2nd gear starts but I don't think that is causing my reverse problem.

The reverse slip is worse when hot:confused:
