I just picked up my GN from having the tranny rebuilt. Greg Friend and I are buds from way back. He's always given me a hand with my GN whenever I've had problems or an install that I needed help on. A few months ago, my tranny started slipping on the 1-2. Greg checked it out and determined the 2nd gear band was fried.
Before the rebuild, Greg and I (well, mostly Greg
) installed a TCI valve body kit. Then Greg hooked me up with Charlie Thayer from TCI for the rebuild.
Charlie used the TCI master overhaul kit. He also found that the drum that had the band wrapped around it was warped. He replaced that and a few other components that he found needed replacing.
All I can say is OMG
. I guess I never knew what I GN tranny should feel like. Charlie said the tranny had been is bad shape for a long time. I always thought the tranny felt soft in the entire 7 years I've owned the car. The GN was already quick and ran strong, but it's a completely different beast now !
