I had been experiencing 1-2 shift problems all week. I tried adjusting the TV cable per directions found on this board and gnttype without any success. Prior to failing, it would only shift at high RPM's or I would have to back off the pedal for it to shift.

After about 7 miles from work going home I had trouble shifting from 1-2. It seems it did not want to shift into second. I placed the shifter on first gear and had no problems but I could not get it to shift to second. Finally I was able to get into third and had no problems. It seems the second gear is my issue.

I just finshed dropping the pan and was wondering if there was something anyone can tell me what to look for?

It's not my daily driver so I have time to fix it if all possible by myself or possible help from other TR owners in the area. Would it be a good idea to order a shift kit, pressure switch. servo, etc.

Thanks all in advance!

Check to make sure spring is still in the gov. for starters, if that's okay then probably band or servo prob.

To add more info, I have about just over 100K miles on the car. I last changed the fluid and filter about 6-7 months ago. Since the change I have only driven the car around 2K give or take a couple of hundred. I hsve been to the track abot 3 times only with a few passes each time.

The fluid was not a bllod red color more of a brownish color with some fine shavings (silverish/black color).

What could of caused this? Overheating? Don't have the funds for a rebuilt at the moment. :(

Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

The Governor (spring) checked out OK. Spring still attached. What do I look at next?

By the way, it seems I will be needing another gasket. Where can I get one of these?

Sounds more like band is dead. Either anchor pin and Or band hole failure. Or with the black metal filings band may have scored drum and putting metal in oil. Sounds more like a band issue or a 1-2 shift valve stuck issue, but if stuck, WHY is the question which probobly points back to something is putting metal in the oil. Until you find that, a snipe huntin you will be ;)

So does it mean it's rebuild time? Can I just replace the band or would it make better sense to just rebuild it and be done with it?

Thanks for your opinions!

I think it would be wiser to go thru the whole thing instead of just replacing band while you are in there to find where the shavings are from and to check all valves are free and not sticking. :D

Thanks for the help and honesty. I guess I will be looking at rebuilding the tranny.
