Tranny in my 87 GN starts to shift too soon and the kick down doesn't work anymore when the tranny warms up. When I start the car cold and drive for maybe 10 miles it shifts fine except for not upshifting at WOT. I have to let of the gas to be able to shift from 1 to 2. When the tranny isn't completely warmed up it downshifts just fine when 1/2 gas or WOT, (except for sometimes down shifting to a too small gear and over reving at WOT). After driving a while it doesn't downshift at all when I floor it. It just accelerates on second, third or fourth gear depending on the speed. Also, it shifts up way too soon when I leave the stop lights. If I accelerate with approx. 1/2 throttle it shifts to second almost immediately. If I floor it from the stop light it can sometimes go up to 4000 rpm and then shift to second, so the symptom of not upshifting in time goes away the same time when it starts shifting up too soon and loses the kick down. I have adjusted the TV cable per GM settings, pulled it back for a click or too, but it doesn't seem to help. If the TV cable is pulled a couple of clicks back from the GM setting it delays the up shifts a little with normal acceleration but if I give it more gas it still up shifts right away. The previous owner told me that the converter has been changed and some rebuilding has been done, but he didn't seem to know what has been done and what is the current converter. Haven't had the time to check the converter yet. On normal cruising the tranny works fine though. Also, the lock up function doesn't seem to work either. Sorry about making this so long, but i tried to make this as accurate as I can. Huh, sounds like I have a really crappy tranny!
