Took the T Type out for the first time in about 8 months. I noticed that whenever I punch it, the car won't launch forward nor will it have the crisp shifting that it should, it will just speed up gradualy. My son and I noticed that there was a spinning noise coming from under the car. We thought it was the turbo, but after carefully listening to it, it is definately coming from under the car.

Could this be a bad stall, or tranny? How can I tell if the right tranny is even on the car, or even the right stall for that matter. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

This may be of the wall and totally wrong, but what it sounds like to me is the torque converter is locked in really low gears. I remember before I replaced my torque converter clutch solenoid that after a little bit of driving the converter would start locking in second and stay locked. When this happened it would accelerate slow and under certain loads you would hear a strange spinning sound from the transmission. Try manually disabling the torue converter and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice. I have no idea when it comes to transmissions. Could you clue me in the right direction as to how to manually disable the torque converter? Also, could the torque converter clutch solenoid be the problem?

If I remember right, the switch is under the drivers side dash, near the fuse box. Thers two switches, one to brake lights and the other to the torque converter. Just pull the one to the torque converter. It veyer well may be your torque converter clutch solenoid....if the problem is torque converter related. Usually though if it is the TCC solenoid it will take 5 or 10 mins to malfunction and start locking in early gears.

Trans tag

If you look at the tailstock of the tranny - on the driver's side there should be a small steel tag that has the trans build code on it 'BRF' 'BQA' or whatever.

Just had my trans built by CK Performance / Trans-ware to the tune of 3,500 bones. Well worth the investment - no question. Its a totally different animal now.
