Anyone have a recommendation to make for a shop to get a transmission problem fixed in Abluquerque? I was driving away from a stop light, heard a loud "clunk" from under the car, and it started slowing down. Pulled over to a side street to investigate. The car barely moves in forward or reverse, and only when its reved up to 2000+ RPM. Any ideas on what the problem might be, how to diagnose it, or where to take it to get it fixed?

sounds like the torque converter, pump or stator broke. Good luck getting it fixed.

GNERIC in Cruces does tranny's. There is quite a few of us here in ABQ if you need some help.

Thanks for the suggestions. I finally got the transmission removed to take a look. Splines on the stator support are sheared.

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to just replace the bad part (or maybe get a rebuilt pump) or if I should get the trans rebuilt. After 135k miles on an all stock transmission and having bits of metal in it from the support it might be a good time to get everything freshened up.

Yep you should have it rebuilt, replacing the soft parts and do the necessary updates to the stator support, band anchor pin, etc.. Just about where my stock trans went. 120,000 miles. Just pick the right shop. My Mike Kurtz rebuild lasted almost 190,000 additional miles before the intermediate shaft broke last year. Pick a quality converter. I had a hard time finding a converter that would go more than 50,000 miles before the lockup clutches would fail.
