I've searched a few times and found little information on trans brakes in this section. I'm wanting to know what's the best way to ensure you don't hit neutral after launching in first gear and shifting into drive? Also how much pressure should I be able to launch with with a stock driveline? Lastly I found threads about a J-rod. (We used to joke around about Johnson Rods :D ) How do you know when you should replace your J-rod?

If you use the Stage Rite trans brake, GBody parts sells the modified shifter gate that allows the user to shift right out of 1st into 3rd without the worries of shifting into OD or neutral. From 3rd you have to press the tab on shifter handle to upshift into OD. I guess you could use it anyway even if you didnt have a trans break just to keep from going into OD when at the track. Just a thought. Deren

That modified shifter gate sounds exactly what I'm after. What about the J-rod, when do you know you need a new high strength J-rod?

J-Rod

Ok I get it, I've never had my shifter apart  So when I slam the shifter out of 1st and into 3rd the old J-rod could let me down. So what's the best U-joints to use? Is that the first thing to go on a stock driveline?

The other problem with a stock shifter and transbrake is the handle will break eventually if you really slam gears...BTDT...I got tired of fixing the stock shifter and put in a B&M Megashifter...nice crisp ratchet shifts...

with the stock shifter, make sure its functioning properly and that the button does not stick... if it sticks it will fly into reverse lol...
