I may be wrong but I think as soon as you drop the shifter into first gear to engage the transbrake any preload on the drivetrain is gone...
 
yes, everytime .. so you need to be at a dead stop before going into low 1

i'm still using the stock shifter with mine , the ones brian has been selling lately include a modified shifter gate but i modified my stock one for better feel and more consistent positive shifts from L1 to L2 ( i dont just push it into Drive) , i also cut the notches deeper in all but L1 , this allows me to set the release button on the shifter so that to get in L1 I need to push the button in further into the handle (you have to set your thumb straight and push into the handle recess) to be able to drop into L1,
also found repop shifter cables dont last long when using L1 alot , im back to using a stock GM part

This is exactly why I like my lightning rods, you can't screw the first gear deal up :D oh and they look cool too :wink:
