I thought I read somewhere that a lock-up 2004R trans only sends fluid to the cooler when it is locked up. Is that true? Is that why you need to mod the trans to run a nonlock-up converter? I have a friend with a trans that doesn't lock-up, with a lock-up PI vigilante converter, BRF trans with the plug for ecm hook-up. Pretty sure it's just the solenoid, but the fluid is reletively new (3 months) and smells burnt. Trans shifts fine, just thought maybe what I thought I read might be his problem. Thanks for the help!

It RESTRICTS the flow by 85% or so running unlocked and yes running a lock up converter unlocked for periods of time under load will cause fluid to burn or at least get hot and begin to loose properties.

i have not had good luck with the vigilante on many occasions .install the lockup vale and springs upside down in the pump (this can be done qwik in the car)start it up put it in gear and hope the engine dies (stalls)cause if it dont you may have got one i sent them back.IF IT STALLS CHECK THE USUAL STUFF . BUT THIS WAY YOU CAN FIND OUT W/OUT SPENDING ANY CASH EXCEPT 4 SOME OIL MAYBE.damn caps lock.ckperformance.com

It does stall when it's cold, DEFINATLY THE CONVERTOR! Never did it till he put it in. He's talkin to Janis, we might be shippin it out there cause he does a lot of PIs. I was just wounderin bout the no-lockup/cooler situation. I did a search and read about the checkin the purple wire with the adl grounded for manual lock-up to make sure it's gettin the signal. One way or another the trans is gettin rebuilt. Thanks again for the help.
