Trans Cooler

I’m putting a project back together that has the fittings leaking at the factory trans cooler portion of the radiator. Would you recommend bypassing it all together and just running an external cooler set up? On my other car I run the fluid through the radiator and then to the cooler. Does it really matter?

You can do that. Are you running a lock up strand still? If so one cooler factory or external should be sufficient. I highly recommend an external cooler with a fan. If you're non lock up spragless converter I highly recommend factory and external cooler

If they're leaking in the front not that big of a deal. If your trans is good and you never trashed it or rebuilt it I would use factory cooler. Fix the leak maybe just needs some Teflon paste and to re thread into rad.

Dug into it a bit... The tank is cracked at the fitting. Someone put some kind of JB weld or epoxy on it to slow the leak down. Probably need a trip to the local radiator shop. I think I will use the factory trans cooler and add the external. I'll have to do some checking on the feed line. Probably best to go to the factory trans cooler first and then route to the external?

That's how the external cooler companies want to do it. Radiator first then the secondary cooler.. I believe feed on stack radiator is the bottom line. I have a pic somewhere I'll post up later

Here ya go

It will depend on the cooler you use. My derale said go through factory location and use remote mount secondary

Use both the rad and the external cooler, if you have a slic put ex cooler right in the grill, if you have a big front mount intercooler use a trans cooler with a fan and remote mount it where you have the room.

Funny you mentioned that... I was thinking of putting a front mount on my car

I have two of them. I'll have to check the ratings... One of them is a big momma so its probably adequate:D
