Ordering the CK master rebuild kit with the billet drum and Imput shaft. Ordering a new converter and trans pan as well. But what else should be replaced with a fresh trans build? Looking to have no surprises ( I know I'm dreaming) when it's time to put trans back in. Plan to ask my trans guy this but figured I'd ask the board on any recommendations on what else to replace in and around the trans. Don't want something to crap out that could have and should have been replaced along with the new trans and etc. thanks in advance.

First thing that pops into my head is, does your "trans guy" have experience and a good track record building the 2004r?

Stator support, sun shell, hard rings for the pump. Make sure the planetaries are in good shape.

Make sure to order a wide band, shift kit and a good billet servo and everything else should go smooth that is as long as builder is up to task.Make double sure if he uses the wide band that he checks the drum that the band goes around for no dishing {using a strait edge or ruler} because if there is any wear there the wide band will only ride on outer part of band and smoke it in no time. Good luck.

need to get the right builder to do the 200 if you plan to put real power to it and have time on it.its not just about the parts

I plan to rebuild mine myself. So im subscribing to this thread.

My transmission is just slipping 1st or 2nd, and im pretty far from race car status lol, but i would like to strengthen the parts that usually fail first.

Trans guy has built many 200's. His wife has 10 second gn. He's a trans guy by trade, doing this for me as a side job. I have no doubt he will take care of everything and backs his word up. Always has. Was was more looking for like what else should I check with the trans out. What other odds and ends should be replaced and or checked.
CK sells a guide to rebuild the 200. I hear it's great info. I'd like to rebuild my own, but I don't have the space to do it

Flush trans cooler with lubeguard tranny cooler flush and make sure you check the bellhousing where gthe dowell pins ride, sometimes they wear the pin bore out and it fits sloppy, no good.

Or just buy a new standalone trans cooler with an electric fan and new braided lines. I've had very good luck using derale coolers. I mount them horizontally in front of the pass side front tire.

I'm assuming the trans cooler in radiator is not sufficient enough? Just a fbody rad. Trans is being put on hold until the winter anyway. Picking up a 109 block that I can't pass up. Hopefully the trans will hold up for the next month and a half before she sits in the garage for the winter.

Dreamin, what climate are you in? I run mine through the rad cooler, a tube n fin and a bar n plate then back to the trans. It is hot here. Getting up on boost heats it up in a hurry.

texast is correct if you are going to run an aftermarket cooler that is a good thing but it should put in series with rad cooler that is the absolutely the best scenario. By the way TexasT did you like how I decapitalized your t's, that's because that what OU is going to do to you guys this weekend, just kidding, thought id take a little poke at ya.

The only reason anyone should skip the cooler in the radiator is if it's got debris from a previous trans failure and you can't get it clean. Most trans shops have expensive machines designed solely for cleaning coolers but if you can't get it flushed properly, then you should bypass any cooler in question. In that scenario, you'd better run a dam big aux cooler if the converter is loose and it better see a lot of airflow.

I'm an Aggie. tu can take their pounding. They won't even schedule us anymore.

I had just the tube n fin but it was still cooking the fluid so we added the bar n plate too. I also use the "tractor fluid".

I'm in south jersey. Was thinking of adding an external cooler with the new build for sure.

Just hackin on ya my Texas brother you guys will be back. If your going to use an aftermarket cooler that's a great idea as long as you use it in series with the factory cooler. The problem with aux. cooler is if the airflow is not moving across it the only cooling its getting is from what the cooling fins can dissipate which isn't much. You have to remember that the trans cooler is in the rad. tank on the side that the coolant is the coolest it will ever get, because its already gone from the thermostsat side where the coolant is the hottest and into the rad. to be cooled, now its on its way back to the engine to do the work again and it just happens to cool the trans cooler on its way back, think of it like an air to water intercooler compared to an air to air intercooler, they work but not near as efficiently. Hopefully you get the gist of this so here is where were at, stock radiator cooler good, stock with aftermarket cooler great, stock with aftermarket cooler and fan, best. Just remember this, the ambient temperature that's normal for your area is something to take into consideration, down south here where TexasT and I are from it gets hot, it might not get that hot where your at so that is something you can consider but no matter where you live I never suggest bypassing the factory cooler and just running an aftermarket,Im sure some guys will disagree with this but if you live any where that the temps get close too 100 degrees and you drive the car I wouldn't recommend it,remember, the two things that kill trannys are HEAT and torque.

Think about it like this. If your hand is the thing we want to change the temp of. Wave it around in the air. Do it as fast or hard as you can. Then submerge your hand in to a bucket if water. Which way changes the temp of your hand the quickest or the most? Same with the trans cooler putting it through a stand alone cooler is dandy if you have airflow across it(this is why many use one with a fan on it) but the cooler in the rad has the liquid in there to transfer the heat to no matter if you are moving or not.

So what fails first in these trannys, and what second?

What are the main hard parts to beef up?

Hit the sticky at the top of the trans section here. It gives a bunch of info on parts and setup.
