As the post says my Father-in-laws buick shifts late out of first and you have to lift to get it to shift then. The TV cable is adjusted and it is still acting the same. Is there somthing that can be changed in the transmission??
One other thing it does is from a roll to WOT running 15 lbs. of boost it pulls good in 1st but when it does go to 2nd it pulls even better running the same amount of boost. Also if you ease into it in 1st and then mash it, it shifts better. Any thoughts?? One last thing it does have a vigilante lockup convertor.

This may seem...

too basic, but did you check the fluid level, any discoloration or smell? Is it possible that the tv cable may be slipping? Had a cable burn up the clutches. Is the vig. a recent addition?

The converter has been in the car for a while but has less than 2000 miles on it. How do you know if the TV cable is worn out??

How's the 2-3 & 3-4 shifts? Late? hard? soft? not at all?

Do this first, this will tell you if it's a T.V. issue or if it's something else.

Loosen the T.V. cable alot (towards radiator) like enough so that only one or two or even none of the notches in the cable housing are visable on the firewall side of the "D" button adjuster, & take it for a drive. DON'T BEAT ON IT as the line pressure will now be way down.

If this brings the shifts in sooner & at low RPMs, it's a T.V. cable or T.V. valve issue.

1, 2 shift...

1/2 shift valve could be sticking in valve body? Scored valve and/or bore? Let us know what you find. Good luck, John.
