trans temp ?

hey! this is my first post so hello to everyone!

so here is my question. i have a almost stock 87gn. i am just getting some gauges for it. i want a trans temp since i will be rebuilding the trans and am curious since no one i have asked knows for sure. do the stock trans run around the same tem as the motor or do they run hotter? for example i find gauge that got to 250 degrees and some that go to 400. what do stock ones run? how much can they jump under launch? just curious.

It's reasonably close to the motor. Get the 250 one. A loose converter may generate some pretty good heat off the line but a 250 gauge should do you fine even then.
