trans wont shift

Ok guys I was driving my bone stock GN around and then like we all do got on the car from a dead stop it did not want to shift and hit the limiter for a sec till i got out the gas. Then starting acting real funny in the shifts now seems like all i have is 1st gear TRANS NEED REBUILD or is something else i have to look at ? trans fuiled is not burned or brown it is clean . The car is a 1984 with 52000 miles

ok if it would be the gov spring would it shift when i shift it manual from 1-2 shift ? Cause it dont seem to shift i dont want to really get on it hard to see but seems that it wont shift?Thanks for any help

ok do i have to change the spring only or everything ? also what am i looking for when i take gov cover off to tell me that it is bad, jumped out of place ect ?Thanks again

You only have to replace the spring. It belongs under the small weight on the governor. If it's not damaged you can just put it back in but that's unlikely. You might find it in the pan.

ok just took the gov out looks good the spring was under the small weight on the governor.

ok i found the problem stuck TV in the valve body. thanks for all the help guys
