What other parts do you need to run a transbrake with 12 psi launches? Which brake, there are about three out there. Stageright appears to be the best price.
 
Ive had great luck with these, But be prepared to replace the forward drum.
Some break them,some dont
 
If you are talking about the drum braking, In general.I would upgrade it when freshening the trans

"I've had great luck with these" I was referring to this statement. Did you mean great luck with the Stageright or transbrakes in general. I trying to decide which brand to go with, and like the price of the Stageright but would definitely consider others if there are good reasons. Thanks!
 
The Stage right brake when released shocks and loads the sprague. The electric brakes such as ours and the one Chris sells does not load the sprague. We both use the clutches to lock the trans. This avoids the shock and damage to the sprague when unloading all that power. The up front cost may be more, but the reliability and the savings in not blowing out the sprague is worth it.

I have used the stage right style in many cars,And I have yet to see a sprag failure, THey are in trannys the run mid 10 or so,
LV GN has one in his 9.60 car and i dont believe he has ever had a failure,
I have owned both styles,
I do prefer the electric one, because i manually shift my car,With a stageright style brake you cannot hold 1st gear.
But also ask Jason Cramer as he still uses the stage right style brake.
 
Over Bruce's many years of racing and building performance transmissions, he has seen enough damage done by loading the sprague that he developed the BAT Brake. Failure in all cases is not what I was refering to, rather the possiblity for failure is far greater than with an electric style brake. It is a crap shoot and you are betting you are going to keep rolling 7's all the time.
 
He may have developed his own, just as has Chris at CK. Bruce and Steve Culhane (Culhane Transmissions in Lake Elsinore, Ca.) sat at a restaurant and drew out the plans for the Bat Brake on napkins late one night. Bruce continued the brake thru the development phase and then to the market place.
Similar does not mean it is the same.

I run a 200 with a SR TB. My sprag exploded last year and what a mess it made. Took out some billet parts too. All is good at the moment.

I realize they brake,But some are made to believe they are junk
I always use a heavy duty sprag and they hold damn good
 
I wouldn't call them junk, it is if you have the money, the electric brakes are the best way to go. Also you dont have to deal with the rebound from shocking the sprague like the stage right does on many hard launches. I personally would never think of selling a 200 4R without an improved sprague in it for anything that looks at under 13 second times.
 
I understand from my trans builder that if someone could design a sprag and surrounding parts to work with more sprag elements that it could take the load much better. To my knowledge, no one does make one for a 200.

That may well be true, but by the time you get thru with development cost and the low number of units to be needed, you would have more money into it than it would take to buy an electric unit that doesn't load the sprague to start with.
