I wouldn't call them junk, it is if you have the money, the electric brakes are the best way to go. Also you dont have to deal with the rebound from shocking the sprague like the stage right does on many hard launches. I personally would never think of selling a 200 4R without an improved sprague in it for anything that looks at under 13 second times.

You post this, then in your next post agree that there "may well be" no improved sprag for 200-4r.

Yet you work at "the leading 200-4R shop" in the country...

So what is it,
Does PTS sell a trans with an improved sprag or not?

I understand from my trans builder that if someone could design a sprag and surrounding parts to work with more sprag elements that it could take the load much better. To my knowledge, no one does make one for a 200.

and then I said this: That may well be true, but by the time you get thru with development cost and the low number of units to be needed, you would have more money into it than it would take to buy an electric unit that doesn't load the sprague to start with.

That puts everything I have said into perspective. I was replying to the fact that no manufacturer is going to spend the time and monies it woud take to develop the surrounding parts to make it a bullet proof unit. I think it is pretty clear as to what I said in my previous post.

And in answer to your last question, all of our units from the Killer Street and up have improved spragues.

As far as we are "the leading 200-4R shop" in the country, so you say.

The Stage right brake when released shocks and loads the sprague. The electric brakes such as ours and the one Chris sells does not load the sprague. We both use the clutches to lock the trans. This avoids the shock and damage to the sprague when unloading all that power. The up front cost may be more, but the reliability and the savings in not blowing out the sprague is worth it.
I was told by jimmys trans that trans brakes are bad on the tranny for reason of people useing it to build boost at the tranny weak spot of the 3 gear band not to queston his opinon but I would love to use a trans brake if it will not kill my tranny

aquickv6, You i tired to pm you but said pm box was full

Me too......

HOW

It's racing! Things are going to break. A trans-brake is hard on parts so if it isn't your cup of tea just pass on it and use the foot-brake.

WEll the transbrake doesnt use a 3rd gear band,As there is no 3rd gear band,But it does use the 3rd gear(or direct) clutch,It does wear a bit, but only when it releases and just drags for an instant(thats if the trans is built correctly),The clutches in my expierience dont take the abuse,But forward drum,od planet,od ring gear, and input shaft. I have broke them all at one time and had replaced them with billet peices.
But i sold my 2004rs and Built myself a 400 and never is it in my mind that it may break,I know it can,But i dont worry about it,With the 200 every time i released the brake, there was always the thought of something breaking.

He has that right! After I got my trans back with the Stage-Right installed I broke the drum just bringing up in RPM on the brake..... before I even backed out of the garage with it! I then put a billet CK drum and input shaft in and it didn't give up the ghost yet. You need those two pieces minimum.

That is such a true statement intercooler. Drag racing is basically pushing a car as hard as you can and yet trying to not break it. That is where we learn our limits and know what to buy when it does break.

Is it necessary to buy the billet forward drum when using an electric brake?

I plan on running low 11's this summer and eventually high 10's and have the stock drum and input shaft.

I would say absolutley, But ive seen guys run a while without braking the stock one.Call it insurance.

Both IMO. All you would need to do is look at them both out of the transmission and see how thin/puny they are and you will have no doubt.

Ok then so

$615 for the center drum hot loaded
$560 for the e brake
$330 for the input
________________
$1505

And thats without the rebuild and converter I already have in the car.

No thanks, I will just leave it alone and when it blows, buy my buddies 400 and lose a gallon or two on gas mileage.

You can get the parts from CKPerformance cheaper.

~$400 for the forward drum, Around $300 for the input, and probably get the VB cheaper too but I haven't bought one so don't know the price.
