Hi guys. Well, this season Ive noticed that my street/strip ART CARR transmission is acting a little funny. Ill just list all the things I have noticed since having the car out this year......

The car seems to "chug" or "pulse" when taking off from a stoplight. Its not really bad, but is definately noticable.

Lets see, Ive replaced the fluid and filter once this year before the NATS, the pan looked pretty darn good, there was some black dust (normal I think). I lost some of my MPH at the NATS, seems that the TCC wasnt locking. Once I got back from the Nats, I replaced it, along with the fluid and filter again. The car will not lock or doesnt seem to lock under normal driving conditions. My manual switch does nothing......but get this, I went to the dyno a couple weeks ago and used a jumper wire on the ALDL and it locked. However, on the graphs, my RPMs where all over the place in 3rd gear locked up.....you cant hear it at all, but obviously something is not right in 3rd gear.

Ive noticed a small vibration in 3rd gear when decelerating, and sometimes at normal cruise 45mph in drive.

Oh and after doing the burnouts last fall at the track, when Id slow down coming to the line and almost stop, Id get a clunk and a jerk forward, almost like the converter was "catching up" I have no idea.....

The car is also leaking fluid from what appears to be the passenger side. After driving I get a nice little puddle on that passenger side. The rear seal is also leaking a little, but I think thats due to when I pulled the DS to do U-joints, might have caught a corner of the seal or something.

I dont know guys. Its a 2 year old Art Carr (cali) street/strip trans with an Orange Crush 3000 in it. It has a huge stacked plate cooler on it, and it really hasnt been abused. I think I made about 20-25 passes last year with it while I was making some pretty good power. Other than that, the first 1.5 yrs was on stock turbo, ic, and blues. A guy I was talking to said it sounds like the sprags are weak or cracked or??? I dont know, I just want to get this issue resolved......... Do you think it could be the converter? If so, I have an art carr 9" non-lockup ready to go in the car, but I dont want to put it in if there is trans problems. Thanks, any help would be great guys.

sounds like the tcc solenoid is bad and keeping the clutch in the converter locked up. easy fix. just repace the solenoid. do a serach under tcc solenoid.

I already have replaced the soleniod, if you read everything.............I know the symptoms for the TCC staying locked up. This is not what is happening...... thanks for the reply.............

sorry didnt read the whole thing. still sounds like the lu clutch being on. if the clutch its self it bad it can be doing what you said. also if the o-ring at the end of the input shaft is damaged. you are bleeding off the pressure to force the lu clutch off. or the lock up valve is stuck in the bore part way. it is common fot the trans to vent fluid out of the vent tube on the pass. side went the converter is going bad.

Hrmm, got me thinking here...........thanks :) I hate transmissions !!!!!!!! Id agree that the TCC might be locked all the time, except for the fact that on the highway my RPMs are higher than usual. Usually 2200 at 65-70mph, now its 2400............ again, thank you for your reply :)
