Pulled the trans out to replace torque converter. Decided to pull pan off trans while out of car. Having a little problem with the 1-2 shift being mushy. Could this be the problem? I noticed the tube is out of it's hole. What is it for?picture here

humm, dont know if thats your problem, but i would just push it back in (i know, i know , that sounds very obvious) but, you should put this in the 'Transmission Talk' fourm

sorry i couldnt help more

isn't that a tranny fluid supple line??
maybe if that wasn't pushed in there wasn't enough pressure to shift to 2 faster..........try it

that is the manual low and manual second boost oil transfer tube.it send line pressure from the manual valve to the intermediate/ reverse boost valve to boost line pressure when the selector is placed in these positions.i have seen this cause a mushy shift by allowing tv oil to bleed off instead of applying its opposing forces on the regulation system.install it and go for a road test.

I ended up making a support for the tube. It's just a piece of flat aluminum 2 1/2" long and 1" wide by 1/8" thick. I removed the corner VB bolt closest to the pipe where it turns up into the VB. I drilled a hole through the piece the same size as the bolt then just replaced the bolt with the piece of metal under it. It presses against the pipe now holding the pipe into the VB. No way in heck it can come out now.

I take it that tube isn't supposed to be tight in the hole??...mine has the clamp in place and it pushes on the tube but if I remove the clamp I can pull the tube almost all the way out of the hole...
