transmission pressure gauge installation

How do you hook up the transmission pressure gauge sender?

Does anyone have a web site, write up or pics?

I have a VDO sender. VDO-360406 PRESSURE SENDER - 0-400 PSI/28 Bar - 10-180 Ohms Single Station (for one gauge), Floating Ground

It would go in the pres. port just ahead & above the shift linkage. There's an 1/8 in. pipe plug there.

Transmission repair manuals show which port is where. Tap into the (main) line pressure one. -Mike H.

Anybody know about the "T" fitting for the cooler lines?

We have the cooler line tee

which is where you should be taking a temp reading anyway. not where you have it now. Our pressure gauge test kit comes with all the fittings and can be used for fuel pressure also. Below are a couple links to the gauge and the tee.

OK, so I should get the "T", move my temp sender from the pressure port to the new "T", and plug the pressure sender in to the pressure port, right?

Problem is the VDO sender that I have is bigger then the pressure port. Do you have an adapter for that to?

Yes... sure do.

In fact, we use a reducer bushing to accept 1/8th pipe and you have 1/4 pipe so it will fit just fine.

OK, I did some reading up, and I think I know the deal here, so let me put it in writing for anyone else that does a search for this.


These are the VDO senders that I bought:
VDO-323086 Temperature Sender 400 Degree 1/8"-27 NPT Thread 3/8" long GM Probe

VDO-360406 PRESSURE SENDER - 0-400 PSI/28 Bar 1/8-27 NPT - 10-180 Ohms Single Station (for one gauge), Floating Ground


The aforementioned port just ahead & above the shift linkage is 1/8"-27 NPT.

So, either one of these senders could plug in to that port, (but only one sender can fit at a time).

The method you guys recommended is to plug the pressure sender in to that port, and the temp sender in to a "T" fitting in-line with the cooler lines.

Specifically, insert a 1/4" 18 NPT "T" fitting in the bottom cooler return port at the transmission, (which is 1/4" 18 NPT) Then, take the fitting that you took out of the transmission and install it in the end of the "T". Then, using a 1/8 27 NPT to 1/4 18 NPT adapter, connect the temp sender to the other end of the "T".


But my question is this; why can't I just get a 1/8 - 27 NPT "T", install that in the port just ahead & above the shift linkage, then install both my senders in to the "T"?

Because..........

It is stagnent oil there. Just pressure. It does not see the true temp that is being discharged out of the converter. The oil at the PRESSURE port is stagnent. meaning, it is just trapped there off the manual valve and pump cavity. The temp you want to KNOW is what is being discharged out of the converter and returning from the cooler.
Hope this makes sense.

Install as we suggested and you cannot go wrong.
