Alright, everything is working properly as far as I know except I am getting a funny noise. When I'm driving very slow I can here a quiet rubbing noise. Also when its in any gear and I'm on the brake, there's a popping noise. It's coming from under the car. It's very similar to popcorn popping. I don't think there's any rythm to it or anything. Anybody have any ideas? anything i could check? I thought maybe it was the tranny but it drives and shifts fine and it's full of fluid. I'm puzzled.

The popcorn sound could be your catalytic converter or an exhaust leak that you're not hearing when the car is idling.

My cat on my N/A regal used to do the same thing, mostly when it was cold. Leaky crossover maybe?

The rubbing noise - a hundred possible causes. Can you trace the rubbing sound to the front, middle or back of the car? Can you hear it inside the car? Could it be a brake pad rubbing on your rotor? Maybe there's surface rust and it's making a noise?

Neither of the probs sound trans related, but I welcome others to chime in.....

I'm 99% sure that that's not it. These things both occur at the same time so they're related or part of the same problem. The rubbing sort of sounds like hydrolic noises or worn belts. Someone suggested that the popping noise could be from missing flywheel teeth? any suggestions?

alright, I got under there and everything in the flexplate area and torque converter looks fine. I did however notice that the TC had the number 7 where the D5 should be . Anybody have more ideas? Also anybody know what the deal with the 7 is?

D7 is supposedly a standard TC, around 1800 stall. Not what you want obviously. The popping and cracking could also be cracked brake pads/shoes, wheel bearing, bad caliper. I guess the car doesn't pull one way or another when you brake? Lift the car and try to turn the wheels with the brakes lightly depressed and see if you can recreate the noise. Just use a breaker bar on a lugnut to give you enough leverage to turn the wheels while they are suspended in the air so you can get 'em spinning sorta fast.
