i have a 1986 buick gn and my problem is that going from 1st to 2nd about 15-25 mph it doesnt shift until the car hits 4k rpm or i have to punch the the gas hard and let go right before the gear to get into the next gear same thing happens 2nd to 3rd around 30-42 mph it does the same thing. i just want to know whats wrong, so i can get her fixed.

NEED MORE INFO .. COULD BE A LONG LIST OF THINGS .. HAS ANYTHING BEEN DONE TO THE TRANNY ? HAS THE DETENT CABLE BEEN MESSED WITH ?

we had the transmission rebuilt back in may and we had a new shifter cable put in and the mechanic said that the detent cable was fine

Check the T.V. cable adjustment first. The adjustment may be too tight. Bring it out 1 or 2 clicks and see what happens.

Reset your TV. Does it feel funny when you slow down? I'm curious if you possibly have a bad lock up solenoid.

I bet your solenoid is stuck. Replace it and I bet your issues will be solved!

Usually a bad TCCS results in short shifting, ie; 1st gear then lock-up, then 2nd, 3rd. Then it stays locked right before you come to a stop. Usually happens after the trans. is hot. Doesnt sound like his problem.

I'd still say a solenoid is bad or flakey. At least check it if you have the pan off the trans. Look at the govenor and make sure your spring didnt fall out too.
